Chevy Truck: Battery Dies Overnight
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
In this video I look at a 2014 Chevrolet that has a customer complaint of the battery dying overnight. Indeed he is correct, it has a big draw sucking the battery dead in several hours. Let's have a look to find the issue. -Enjoy!

White board talk was the clarification. Excellent!
This reminds me of my wiper motor that had shorted internally on my 65 nova SS. The wipers had a mind of their own since they were ground side switched.
Love that chalk board explanation at the end.

I found mine. 200k on the mechanism in the column for the ignition switch. If I don’t make sure that it is all the way of after removing the key, a bunch of stuff stayed powered and causes a parasitic draw.
You have a way with words Eric! "Because I have the patience of a squirrell..." made me chuckle!
Excellent class. Thanks for the added white board explanation. I find myself nodding my head in acknowledgment to your analysis. 😆
Someone once told me that if you can teach what you are doing, then you really know it.
Great job Eric. Your approach and explanations are both logical and well explained for us who are wanna-be better techs. Keep them coming.
Hoky Poky with the fuses, you made perfect sense!

I used your info from previous videos to find my parasitic draw today on my UK GM (Vauxhall) and dam if I didn't find it within an hour, so thank you Eric, saved me many more jump lead sessions 😀, mine was the DAB module 👍
'Dead battery every morning. Trunk-mounted, retracting radio antenna was vandalized/broken. It wouldn't retract at "key-off", so its motor stayed energized all night. You must have learned a lot from old guys too. Thanks for the GMC truck stuff. Mine is a '01 Silverado, but it lives in AZ.
I was a little lost but the drawing at the end made perfect sense. Great explanation Mr O
Very good diagnosis. You never stop learning. I learned more watching your videos also enjoy them. Thank you Eric
I’m a physician and like your logical approach to arriving at a diagnosis.
Can't beat the old 4x4s with levers for the transfer case.
"if it was me, and in this case it is" !!!!!! love this line!
Excellent troubleshooting. I believe what makes a great mechanic is one who understands both, mechanical AND electrical issues. Most mechanics can only read codes and replace parts, but this is true troubleshooting at its finest. Using the K.I.S.S method (Keep it Simple Stupid), as I was taught as a young technician. So many used cars out there with battery disconnects as a bandaid instead of finding the real problem! I wish more mechanics like you existed in this world. S.M.A is a first class operation in my book. When some say “take it to the dealership,” it still comes down to the person working on your car… not the facility!
From a guy just trying to learn knew things, keep this stuff coming! I've turned bolts and torched stuff before but I've always felt ignorant on the wiring. I learn something knew every video.
Never failed , I have learned so much from you. I’m almost ready to try to do it myself lol. Have a great one man , thank you
Great explanation for a non- mechanic. It is pure logic!
Hell yea! Class is now in session. Thanks for the lesson Prof. O.
dang that was fun to watch. Methodical and practical diagnosis. I really enjoy the extra time that you spend reviewing the concepts you're discussing. You never assume we all understood you the first go-round, and it's super helpful!
Having a plan and a process makes diagnostic work so much easier. Thanks Eric for proving that in almost every video. Best to the family.

Excellent job on finding the issue and explaining why it is the issue.
Fantastic walk-through Mr. O! You wouldn't believe how many "experienced" technicians I assist with diagnostics day-to-day that need to watch this video and learn a thing or two.
Showing the simple straight point to point checks to eliminate possible until the problem is found. Very good reinforcement of the quickest way to troubleshoot. Keep them coming Eric.
