Chevy Suburban Off-roading in the Ozarks

Ойын-сауық

A lot of people that drive in the Ozarks will tell you it's no place for a full size vehicle. We would say differently. The roads certainly do get tight but we haven't found many we can't fit our suburban down. Pin stripes and potentially a little body damage is always a possibility though.

That tree with the steps looks like what they used to climb out of Indian mounds. They would have an entrance that you could walk in on ground level and then have a log like that to climb out of the center. But it probably was just to climb out of the creek. Love your videos.

New generation Chevy Engineers should be watching this, they don't make them like they used to, now it's all about plastic.

These generation Suburbans/Yukon XL's are beasts off the beaten path. And it's a plus with all that room to store your gear inside the vehicle or to sleep in. I have a 2001 Yukon XL that I take onto crappy forest roads and the sand at the beaches. Also where I live the winter road conditions can get pretty sloppy. I could be driving in deep snow, slush, ice or combinations of everything at the same time. Never had a problem. I think this generation body style looks the meanest modified with even just a few minor upgrades. The newer body styles are nice but they don't look like they mean business.

Currently running a 3/4 ton Chevy express. They’re pretty amazing and capable for light off roading where ground clearance is all ya need. As wonderful as it’s been, I’ve been really looking at these and the tahoes to be able to go just a little farther. Owned an expedition and slept in the back of it comfortably with the wife, but damn they’re a pain in the ass to work on and expensive to get work done on it. Would love to have the z71 package with a good old 350

Yep they can go a lot of places. Add the slightly smaller overall profile and length of a suburban or Tahoe opens up even more options. Plus the benefit of 4x4.

I picked up my 05 burb Z71 4x4 for a steal. Just $2,300. There are deals out there for sure. Bought it online and had it shipped. Cant wait to have a family of my own for some off road adventures. Ive never been off road like this. Put on a set of 285/70/r17 and curious what it can do with no lift. I love the added length of Suburban for these activities because i plan on sleeping in it often. As a long haul trucker, i will be right at home in the “sleeper”. Sad part is, i have no idea where i can go legally in my area. I do want to road trip it across America and camp off the beaten path.

Well I didn’t buy the Tahoe or suburban. I DID pick up an 8 lug 95 k2500 I want to build out. The truck platform just seemed to give me more options. Tow a camper, put on a camper shell or slide in camper. No idea which direction I wanna go yet. A lot of deferred maintenance to catch up on from the previous owner. Mostly consumables and fluids but in overall great shape. Already know how to work on them and parts are still cheap so far

What you should do is find a schenectic to have your frame Be able to twist so you can have all your wheels on the ground And don't have to worry about one tire just spinning

Not much you can do to make the frame flex even removing the sway bars doesn't do a lot on these Trucks. The 4wd is great on these vehicles everything locks up when needed. When you see his front wheel not spin he has it in 2wd around tight corners, you can see one wheel on each axle not spin but the rear diff auto locks and it continues on around the turn.

He is really easy on the throttle usually one tire bas to spin 100 rpm faster than the other or a speed of of amount faster so the mechanism to lock it gets pulled out from centrifugal force it is probably how he is babying it. I saw a couple of times that it engaged when he was in 2wd and gassed it a little like when he got wheels off of the ground around a turn. Etc.
