Chevy Silverado 6.2 Catastrophic Engine Failure

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This 2014 Chevrolet Silverado with only 55k miles needed a new engine after the intake valve spring on cylinder #2 broke, dropping the valve into the cylinder and breaking the connecting rod.

    I saw a video a year or two ago where a tech said they were told to take BRAND NEW unsold Chevy trucks and check them for broken valvesprings by running them at 2500 RPM for 4 hours I think? Or was it 4000 RPM for 2 hours?

    The early 6.2s were good up until 2013 or so when they started adding AFM. The 5.3s were also good up until 2007. Easily 3-400k engines with normal maintenance.

    I bought a L94 block cheap. On start up it dropped a seat and busted the piston. Luckily the person turned it back off quick when they heard the bang. It shattered the piston. The piston busted in a fee big pieces and the pin luckily only nicked the cyl wall. I am able to have 1 sleeve put in. I am doing a swap with her.

    You hate to see it, but sadly quality has come down significantly over the years. They run chevys at work and the truck I got the bosses old one certainly has had its share of issues. As opposed to the earlier truck a 2011 Sierra, the 2011 never let me down ever. Besides the stupid exhaust manifold leak. They got new trucks so I got upgraded to a 2015 with the 6.0 liter. This one randomly developed an electrical issue and killed 3 starters. The dealership diagnosed it as needing a fusebox. They replaced it but it kept acting up, found out their mechanic put in a cheap aftermarket one. You'd go to start it and sometimes it'd be fine, sometimes it'd click, sometimes it wouldn't even turn over it would give a service theft deterrent system message, Chevy dealer diagnosed it as a bad starter. The fuel pump died at 70K which seems like very low mileage. The TCC had an issue at 85K or so and they had to replace that. I love the truck but it feels like a lemon. The sister truck another 2015 Silverado hasn't been plagued with any of those issues, it makes you wonder and question it all. When they bought the 2015's they replaced a 2002 and a 2005 Silverado. The 05 had about 120K on it and no issues other than rust (salt truck for many years). The truck ran very strong.

    I am with you. The amount of issues i have had, is unbelievable. My 6.2l blew up at 26,000 miles. My work Tahoe has had transmission and lifter issues. My work fleet had x3 Equinox with engine failures, and a Traverse on x3 transmission, continuous AC issues. GM IS GARBAGE.

    the 2014's must be junk, 2 days ago my father's engine grenaded the 4.3 with 65k miles. he said it started making noise like 2 miles from home, had zero oil in it, none leaked out. No low oil light or warning. He checked the oil like a week before. Filled it up and had a horrible knock, shut it off and drained it to see full of metal chunks

    Had a 2013 for about a year and half. got it used with 10K on it 3 Years old at the time Put 6K on it a AFM lifter failed Fixed under warranty Found out it had pistons rods and bearing done just before I got it That trucks did not look abused it was just a lemon. had the service history pulled while it was being repaired. Prior own too care of it took it in when it was due by time for oil changes and paid dealer for detailing

    I know a handful of guys that have 2014-19 gm trucks that have 180k to as much as 230k miles on them without any engine problem. 9 out of 10 fail due to not changing the oil often enough and clogging up the AFM system. 5000 miles is the most someone should go no matter what kind of fancy oil is in it. 3000 miles is a better oil change interval.

  • @karlschauff7989

    @karlschauff7989

    11 ай бұрын

    @@campermike8879 A lot of mechanics that worked on Gen IV 5.3's with an AFM problem didn't follow the proper procedure, so the system would have clogged oil screens that would eventually cause another AFM lifter to get stuck. By "due by time for oil changes" what do you mean? A lot of guys seem to think 7000 miles between oil changes is a good idea with those engines but it's going to cause the AFM system to sludge up over time. 5000 miles between changes is pushing it. 3000 should be the oil change interval if lots of short trips in cold weather is common. AFM is reliable when the oil is kept clean.

    My mind goes right to an out-of-balance tire if it's vibrating at highway speeds. You've probably already checked it as its the easiest to check. I wouldn't even mention it but I've had a truck have a vibrating wheel the tires needed balanced and rotated.
