Thanks for your video and your candidness! I just finished replacing mine last night. Several hours to disassemble and several more to reassemble. I have those EGR valves too. Secondary Air Valves they are called. I feel like we are blood brothers after we both endured that insanely pain in the ass job! I feel like coming out to Michigan to have a beer with you! The 10MM air tube bolts are terrible to get out and in. The one on the bottom on the passenger side was the worst! I went with a Dorman because they are designed thicker. Dorman is known to solve factory issues with redesigned parts. Thanks again and I'm praying mine never cracks again!

This should come in handy. I have to get the manifold off my wife's 2013 Equinox to fix the secondary air injection (not EGR). Seems the air injection ports get clogged up and it sets a P0411 code, and there's a TSB from GM saying that you'll have to clear the carbon from the injection ports periodically to fix it. She's had a P0411 for a year now and it's getting close to E-check time again.

Hey there I have a question about the valve air injection What’s side is bank #1? Passenger or driver side?

  • @GirlDadx5

I'm about to chuck this whole car out over this repair lol. I cannot remove the bracket for the secondary check valve in order to get the heat shield out. It's 1:03pm pacific standard time and I've been working on this since 10am, YESTERDAY! I cannot get a 10mm of any size in between the bracket and the exhaust manifold to remove the bottom bolt on the passenger side. I have the other 3 of the 4 out. And the whole bracket from the driver side out. I was only able to remove the bottom bolt on the driver side by creating a 2 foot extension and attacking it from underneath the car. I don't have that luxury for this one on the passenger side, there's no pathway. I'm at my wits end and open to any advice. I really wish you would've recorded how you completed that part of the job. I can't be the only one that feels this is single handedly thee toughest part of this repair.

I tried to show it but I was so jammed into the engine bay you couldn't see anything 😆 I believe I used a 10mm wrench or a small quarter inch 10mm socket in a swivel. I don't have a ton of fancy tools so I know it can be done, I just remember spending a good hour getting it off. Little by little.

With the oil in your PCV tube - it looks like the PCV orifice (in intake manifold is plugged). Check if you have vacuum on this tube - if no vacuum, the orifice is plugged.

I tried this job and could not get to all the 10mm bolts to take the EGR tubes off. It took me an hour to get there. After trying to figure it out for 6 hours I put what I had off back together and called my friend and said I couldn't do the job. I could see the 10mm bolt (from below) and put a finger on it but with that heat shield in the way I could not get anything on it and turn it. Only got one of them out but needed to get more and just couldn't get there. I have a pretty good collection of hand tools too. If it were my car I would have temporarily reconfigured(bent) the heat shield to get to the bolts but it wasn't my car. I also did not have an O2 sensor wrench and was wondering if one could take that out with the heat shield on to be able to shift it further out of the way to access the 10mm bolts. This just stumped me.

It was a solid 8 out of 10 difficulty. The one bolt you're mentioning took me about 20 minutes to get out after a few hours of figuring what tools to use. I ended up using a small 10mm wrench

  • @Doggotron9

I spent 5 hours getting to that point and also got stuck on the heat shield. Even with an 02 sensor socket, I couldn’t get a good angle to remove the o2 sensor without chewing it up. 7/8 is not equivalent to 22mm and my socket had a chamfered edge which made it even more difficult to get seated properly. This is the most annoying gm vehicle I have ever worked on

  • @petergross8808

@@Doggotron9 A friend lent me the right snap on O2 tool but I broke my craftsman 3/8 ratchet and just put it back. Found out it was a Michigan car which explains the rust. You do need to pull that O2 sensor to get the heat shield off. My guess would be to use some DB Blaster or similar before trying to put the wrench on it.

I own a custom exhaust shop in florida. I have done 5-6 dozen of these manifolds. Yesterday, i bid my normal price to a customer $6-650 without really looking at it close. Only to learn today that this one(2015) has this stupid secondary air injection crap(first time I've seen this). Called him back and told him more like $900. Worked on it from 2-5pm steady today, and i still have not got the first manifold bolt loose. Had to bend the crap outta the shield to get it off. Which is probably why this dude didn't show that part in his video? Probably gonna take another 3-4 hrs of steady work tomorrow, so even $900 is not really enough. I could be doing other jobs that aren't such a PIA making more money. Next time i see one of these, im not touching it for less than $1,200, or they can just keep moving...
