8 years of college education in engineering and still can't design a truck frame that doesn't have access to the inner core!!! Aughhhh great video and repair on this Chevy!

Mine wasn't as bad as that one.... But then again I only have the Z85 RWD Version with front struts. I had to prevent this from happening to mine. I has just mostly surface rust with 1 hole the size of a dime I fixed. Once I descaled my LS swapped 06 Canyon I blew out the inside of the frame and used Wool-wax with the wand sprayer that shoots 360 degrees and got the entire inside of the frame. I used Por15 on the outside of the frame. I replaced my entire Steering and suspension. Inner tie-rod threads got Cold Galvanized spray. Hell my custom exhaust got high heat header paint. Nice Video bud...

That's awesome. They are cool trucks but definitely had several yrs of poor quality material. LS swapped I bet it is ton of fun. Thanks for watching.

Labor worth more than the truck.

That may have been true. I learned a lot taking on a project like that. Sometimes the experience is worth more than the job itself. It was a fun project. Thanks for watching.

I understand. They are cool little trucks. The fact they are 4 door and that size. I did have the luxury of a small space in the garage. There where many times I was making parts and PCs outside. It took me 4 months to complete the repair on the Colorado. Used every available evening and weekend I could, just to keep moving forward. I work a minimum of 50hrs a WK. Plus almost 2 hrs of driving to work. Most evenings I'd be lucky if I put in 2 hrs a day on it. Some Days was just preparing for the next available moment.

My 2010 Colorado is solid but 2012 needs a little work. Crazy !!

Ya it is crazy how fast they fall apart. It's getting to the point it's cheaper to fix or repair them than buying new.

Ya it's unfortunate. They are cool little trucks. I will probably get a 4 door one day. Thanks for the comment.

From central Indiana. I believe the truck may have come from Pennsylvania at some point.

I’ve got an 06. Does not appear as far gone as this. Would you recommend a frame replacement at this point or is it worth while to repair

If you have the skill and confidence to reconstruct then you could go for it. Time and money is the biggest factor. We struggled finding a donor frame in my area. Money was the other big factor. Its really going to depend on your abilities and time. Evenings and weekends it to me about 3 1/2 months. It would take way less time to swap in a good frame. If you have tools, time and space and basic skills you can try and go for it. I approached it with a what do I have to loose attitude . Absolute worst case I was going to have to go out of state for a frame. I had about $300 in consumables and material. But a boat load of hours. If u repair it. Take lots of measurements and photos and write them all down. It really depends our your abilities. I've been welding for over 20 yrs. Good luck with what ever you choose. Feel free to tag me with some photos. Thanks for watching.

Truck is locked up until the winter is over. I’m going to need to pull the bed off to see if a fishplate will work in the damaged sections. Assume I’ve never laid a passable bead in my life. That’s where my skill level is with fabrication. I appreciate the video. It’s truly humbling to see how much technical work goes into a project like this.

@@nickyprezident4575 it's a job for sure. Maybe you know someone who does know how to weld and learn. I appreciate the comments. Good luck.

@@jonile2261 always looking for a challenge. But my busy schedule doesn't allow me to commit to a project like that. It took me almost 4 months of around probably 50-60 hours of heat'n and a beat'n to get that one done. Lots of evenings and weekends.
