My Astro is 94 awd shorty. You must use a AC Delco fuel pump. Anything other than a GM pump you are asking for it. When the non GM pumps get around 20 thousand miles on them you can here the bearings in them groaning at least 15 feet away from the van. This is your first warning to save up for a new pump. I get around 30k with the aftermarkets pumps, but around 100k with the GM pumps. Good luck.

@metalmoto Sorry,The 96-02 Astros used the sequential (CSFI) SCPI. The video shows the 92-95 multiport (CMFI) version of the CPI unit. The heads and intake manifold are very different also. You could have a bad fuel regulator or even a stuck open injector dumping fuel. The next time it floods pull the spark plugs one at a time. The plugs that are soaked in fuel indicate bad injector or bad spark to that plug. If they are all soaked look towards the regulator or lack of spark to the plugs.

@ThePakPatriot My van had good days and bad days. On the good days the Astro would run great, but on bad days I would get the raw fuel through the exhaust also. This would happen two to three times a week, and only on the first start of the day.

@tinacay The ecu does get the signal to fire the injector from the distributor. In the past when the module went so did the spark. Should only cost around $30.00 and it can't hurt having an extra one if it's not the problem. No injector needed.

@kkool1984 Once you remove the retaining bolt from the fuel line, the job will go a lot quicker on s-10s. Raw fuel, or black smoke from your exhaust could point to a bad CPI system.

My fuel pump failed and after replacing it and the screen and filter, it idles rough (chugs) and just doesn't run the way it should. I have come to the conclusion that the pressure relief valve has failed due to the increased fuel pressure (and the fact that the Astro van is 19 years old). Thank you for your video, it will help greatly when tearing it down and reassembling.

@808hatem It's not that bad of a job, just take your time and don't rush like I did. Good luck.

@tinacay It takes that amount of psi for the fuel to get past the poppet valves. Anything less and they will not open. The poppet valves are mechanical.

@tinacay I think the regulator has to have a reading of at least 55 psi for the injector to fire. Your fuel pressure may not be enough.

@tinacay You have two of the big three(Compression,spark,but no fuel) that are needed for your car to run. Your lack of signal to the injector could be a few things. I would test the injector harness for voltage while cranking. You should have some sort of reading as the engine cranks. If voltage is not getting to the injector, trace the wires and look for bad spots. If you are getting voltage at the harness then it is probably the injector. It should ohm out around 1.5. Good hunting.

Sounds like my problem too. I'm only getting 9 MPG, missing, rough idle, strong gas smell from exhaust, and sometimes no start (like today). It tries to run, but seems to be flooded. Strong gas smell and white vapors coming out of air cleaner when opened. Wait a while and it will start, runs really rough at first. I guess until excess fuel clears out? 01 Astro 127000 miles. Your reply is greatly appreciated.

@JayDanYell Just take the doghouse off and have a look with the engine running. If your van is leaking that much oil, you should be able to see where the source right away. It could be anything,oil sending unit,oil filter,valve cover, timing cover, intake manifold. Good luck.

Do you happen to have a before video of the van with the rough idle? Also did you use red RTV silicone gasket maker to seal the intake manifold or a specific gasket

Sorry no before videos of the idle, but the leak was the main problem. I didn't use any gasket maker at all. The gaskets all worked great without it. Retired the van at 283K and drove it to the junkyard. (Rusty frame)

The prices have changed over the years but amazon has the injector and summit racing has the now discontinued fuel line kit. GB Remanufacturing #833-22101 Fuel Injector AC Delco #17112705 fuel line kit.

Why does the plenum gskt not fully encircle the 6 holes? I just replaced my spider and I think the gskt. I installed did fully encircle those 6 holes. What could happen ?

Yes Sir. The gasket is suppose to encircle all six holes. If not you may get a vacuum leak resulting in a rough idle.

Should have one the intake at the same time.

i know that on the front left side of your id of top intake you show idle speed controler (isc) but i have replaced that on mine and it is not isc, it is a iac (idle air controller).

Not at all. The Felpro gasket was good enough to probably be used again.

What model is your car? Where I can find the " spider injector"? How much the " spider injector"?

The extra oil is probably just sludge build up over the years of use. Should not be a problem at all. If the sludge is excessive, remove as much as possible before you reassemble everything. So my 1999 astro van is leaking oil in a monumental way. Basically pouring out when the engine is running. I think it's probably a valve cover gasket, but I've never gotten into the engine. Is this going to be doable by a guy with basic "replace the parts" ability or should I pop for the repair shop to tackle it? Thanks for any advice.

could you please tell me if the new replacement injector comes with o-rings at the poppet nozzles. i have a jimmy 96 and i´m trying to figure out what am i doing wrong. i removed the whole injector assembly and did not see any o-rings at the tip of the nozzels so i don´t know if there should be any. the truck is consuming so much gas that you can smell it coming out the tail pipe

hey where did u get your new gasket that goes around the manifold?

@DawgcityClev If nothing is seized up, I would say one to two hours. Watch the front center upper intake bolt that's right behind the idle speed controller. It may have a lot of carbon build-up on it from the EGR system, and could strip or snap. Take your time. (Mine seized at the halfway point)

No silicone was used. Just a good felpro gasket. Sad to say but this van is just about worn out at 263k.

About an hour and a half.

I have a question that maybe somebody out there can answer I have a 1995 Chevy Astro van and I just had a new cat converter put on it yesterday and over the past three months I have replaced everything that's replaceable on that motor from the EGR valve to a brand new cap and rotor plug wires and plugs I put a brand new fuel pump in it I change the O2 sensor and I change the fuel filter. Now here's what my problem is when I push the gas pedal down to accelerate it acts like it's not getting the proper fuel to give me the proper horsepower so what could the problem be

I had this problem. Mine only had the problem when the fuel tank was 3/4 full or less. If the fuel level went to 1/4 tank the van wouldn't even start. Turns out the cheap plastic fuel pump to sending unit rubber hose clamps (which came with the new pump)were not up to the job and were leaking off fuel pressure. I replaced the plastic hose clamps with the traditional metal worm type and it solved the problem. I did a fuel pressure check to find the problem.

local701 Well it's just driving me crazy trying to figure out what's wrong with my van without putting it in the shop. If I can't find the problem by searching it on KZread then I don't know what to do and I definitely do not want to drop my fuel tank again just to replace some clamps. But thank you for your information in regards to why my van might not be running right. Hopefully I will figure out this problem so I can make it to St Augustine Beach Florida
