Thanks for taking time to share. Great points on springs etc. Glad they're holding up so far. Maybe I done mine the hard way, yet I only put small enough holes through the foam and batting to just get the hog rings through so as not to compromise the integrity of the foam, especially the side bolster areas. It took more time initially, yet as I went along had it down soon enough. Again, thanks for taking time for video and share seat restoration as one of the major jobs to do along with everything else to complete and drive a classic again!

I know know why my seats I paid to have re-covered bulge like they do; it was a quick job without any care, or attention to the details such as you exhibit here. I'm fairly positive he did not use any listing wires on the seat bottoms... I'll go in and attempt installing them myself, now I know how to do it. Cheers

Chris you do a really fine job with your video's showing possible pitfalls that one might have and handy tips and tricks to make it look professional and neat along with tips on how to do this on a budget when possible. I have enjoyed all of your video's and have learned a lot. You would possibly be really surprised on how many cars that you have helped to get them back on the road, looking good and functioning right without directly putting your hands on them. Hi Chris - good video. I am finishing up my 72 Cutlass seats and had to restore portions of my seat frames. I used your coat hanger wire idea to create hog ring loops. Getting ready for body assembly; watching your door mounting technique video now. Greatly appreciate your contributions here...Cheers!

especially from OPG my goodness they raise things up way too much. Put out a new catalog and by the time you order its already 5 bucks more

Chris you really cover everything. I love your channel. I have learned a lot. $1500-$2000 to install a interior kit is insane. I guess I'll be doing that myself as well.

You will find if you reuse as many as the original parts as possible, reassembly will go alot smoother.

Oh man dude!! Damn nice job explaining everything as you replaced with new covers! Very detailed!! I appreciate it. I m thinking about taking in my one bucket seat in my 71 Nova! Never done it before. Gonna try to reuse the old foam if I can. Once again bro, good job!!

Menards has 1/16 &1/8 steel rods x 15 inches, they support floor insulation between the floor joists, you get foam and padding where they upholster furniture

You're a better upholsterer than most professional upholsterers.

by the way a trick to put in the covers is to use a very thin kitchen garbage bag over the seat bun and they will slide in easier.

Not bad for how many tricks you're missing. Heat is you're friend in the beginning, middle, middle, and end. I'd say industrial steamer is really your friend, but I don't expect anyone to by an industrial steamer.

Also if you for heat a knife to cut the foam you can also heat the knife with gloves on with your heat gun!

i am in the middle of doing some bucket seats for a 71 monte carlo that i am converting from the split bench. i thought it would be hard to do the seats but its relatively easy. a nice table to work on makes the job a lot easier. i also have pictures if anyone needs. i used legendary for the covers and american cushion industry for the buns.

ive done a bunch of buckets and they were easy.. but these sponges are made wrong.. i actually took the seat back apart and im having to modify these or buy the $99 each foams... the bottoms are perfect... i done some buckets for my 68 el camino about 10 years ago in which the original foams were perfect and done both seats in about 3 hours... these are a nightmare... monte carlos with buckets are game changer

the nice thing about the GM bodies are that the frames are the same. i picked up these frames and they were i think an oldsmobile or similar body style and all u do is u buy the correct buns and seat covers. kind of glad the monte carlo is easier to do than the oldsmobile seats since they have the higher bottom cushion bolsters, u need to cut the seat foam to attach the seat covers thru there where the monte carlo one you dont need to. By the way the video is really good. i took it upon myself to do the seats without watching any videos and it wasnt bad at all. the small tabs that were broken off i made them out of metal and spot welded them

And factory there IS a piece of hard cardboard where you put the cardboard on the back. I just took a 72' bucket seat apart not long ago and saved it. My seat was rusted to heck

What’s the bracket part that has the 2 hinge bolts, you held in your hand after you unbolted the top from bottom hinge

Good video. I have bucket seats in my 56 Chevy from a 68 Chevelle. No head rests. Good info on refinishing the plastic parts. Be nice if you could share a link for the chrome plastic piping for the edges. :)

I got it from original parts group.. I did some 68 Chevelle buckets 15 years ago and got the chrome piping from OPGI too

Hey Chris. I have a question About the chevelle seats. I just got the the seats done. The seats don’t line up when pushed all the way back. The bracket in passenger lot smaller then the drivers. Drivers seat sits back fine but passenger side sits up one notch more. Is this normal GM engineering?

Might try coated stainless steel braided wire instead of hard coat hanger or 1/8th wire. It bends easierl, holds well and wont rust.

you want the listing wire to be stiff and rigid all the way around.. you don’t want a wire that bends easy at all.. coat hangers are okay for the parts that wrap around the frames but the decorative inlay pieces MUST be 1/8” or you will get a wavy look down your seats..

$2800 for all new buckets @ OPGI . Haven't convinced my wife yet.

youtube does not allow notes anymore... the medallion is 6" from the top piping to the top stud hole... sorry...

is there any way to make the seat backs recline more. like just an inch or so.

Yup just put a spacer on the front two seat mounting bolts to angle it back further.

Did you use flat satin or gloss for head rest and panels.

Thanks. Also what size hog rings did you use. 3/8 1/2 or 3/4. I wasn’t confident in doing this, till I saw all your videos on dash and seats.
