Chet Holmgren 2021-22 Gonzaga Season Highlights | West Coast Conference DPOY & ROTY

Спорт

the highest-ranked recruit to ever sign with the Zags ,versatile 7-1 prospect is the top-ranked recruit in the Class of 2021 by ESPN and 247 Sports and has a seven-foot, six-inch wingspan. The freshman already has the tools to become a first-class NBA big man. In addition to standing at 7-feet fall with a 7-foot-6 wingspan, Holmgren shot for 39% beyond the arc this season. And he’s a defensive anchor, averaging 3.7 blocks per game in his freshman year. Holmgren is a walking double-double, averaging 14.1 points and 9.9 rebounds per game this season, and could become a cornerstone for a struggling NBA team that falls to the top of this year’s lottery.
We've truly never seen an NBA prospect quite like Holmgren: A shot-blocking, lob-catching, 3-point shooting, ballhandling 7-foot-1 "big man" with the fluidity of a guard and a relentlessness that doesn't match his slender, 195-pound frame. With a body type that earns him comparisons ranging from Kevin Durant to Brandon Ingram to Kristaps Porzingis to Bol Bol, Holmgren has let his game do the talking, as he is in the midst of a record-breaking freshman season for Gonzaga. He is the only prospect in NCAA history to average at least 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocks while shooting over 70% from 2 and 40% from 3, and he's doing so on the No. 1 team.
Despite facing Duke, UCLA, Alabama and Texas Tech in nonconference play, a heavy dose of Holmgren's true highlights came against West Coast Conference opponents, as he took more of a back seat offensively against the Blue Devils, Crimson Tide and others. Holmgren averaged 12.6 points per game on 66.4% true shooting in 18 games against teams over .500 as opposed to 16.9 points on 78.1% true shooting in fewer minutes across 11 bouts versus teams with a losing record. Will Holmgren defer to veterans Drew Timme and Andrew Nembhard with the season on the line or will we see the pull-up 3s and coast-to-coast slams that became a regularity in WCC play? How will Holmgren's frame fare against more physical tournament opponents, particularly Memphis big man and projected top-10 pick Jalen Duren, as Duren, with his Dwight Howard-like physical profile, is the exact type of player that Holmgren's biggest naysayers worry he'll struggle against in the NBA. -- Mike Schmitz

He has a 60% FG percentage. 73% on two point shots and 39% on three point shots. How many seven foot guys can say that. And just because he can shoot from outside, don't liken him to Porzingis. He's more like Kevin Garnett when he came out of high school. Tall and skinny. Excellent body control. Driven to succeed. Wiry tough. Garnet weighed about the same as him and ended up at 240 lbs. Holmgrem can easily do the same. Whoever gets him is getting a good player. Not some also ran or second choice.

I like Chet a lot but it is a mistake to take him at #1. Chet will absolutely be a winning player on a contender, but the goal with the number one pick is to get an elite offensive player (and solid defneder) who will be able to create meaningful offense when the game slows down in the playoffs. His value defensively not to be overlooked, but it is more available across the NBA (and affordable) than the aforementioned offensive skill that I believe Paolo Banchero to posses (and to a lesser extent Jabari Smith).

His potential is ridiculous especially with a jumpshot like that already shooting 40% from 3. I'd be scared to take him over Banchero and Ivey but u kinda have to with the shot blocking, the long range shooting, passing, inside game and handle at that size. Hes a little slow and unathletic looking so he might have some trouble at the next level but whoever drafts him had to be patient give him a few years and once he puts some muscle on he could be a serious problem. He could end up being a bust too and I got a weird feeling about him but you have to take the risk with a shot blocker who can stretch the floor like that.

He handles like a guard, he is an elite rim protector, he's going to be one of the best stretch 5s in the NBA as soon as he steps onto the court, he is a great finisher, and he also can defend on the perimeter. He does everything well, and he has so many tools to work with. If you look at anything other than his skinny frame, he has a complete game that will make him an absolute force on both ends assuming his body holds up.
