His fluffy attack ... maybe due to dental issue ... is sublime ... he is so quick around the horn and these are meaningful lines not just practised runs ... always manages to invent a counter melody that often is more beautiful than the melody ... in maturity he was THE master improviser so lucky to have these recordings ... such a unique emotional tone ... thank you Chet

This is Chet at his best but it's the guitar of Philip that really makes this my favorite jazz album... I must have listened to this 100 times. So good!

to me, Chet was at his best in the 80's. His sound was so refined and seasoned.

He physically looked good as an adult. The wear and tear showed up after the 80s.

I think the very same, specially since '81 to '85, playing with Raney and Catherine at guitar

Chet was always right on pitch, even when doing fast runs. Very, very pure. No wrong notes!

Only Chet!! The one, and only, nobody improvised on his level on any instrument. He could play whatever he wanted through his trumpet whatever his mind thought of. And it was a beautiful, jazz mind. The timing, intricacy, emotion, and inflection of his solo work is simply amazing.

Absolutely ... played seriously for 20 plus years now ... some good moments and lovely comments from people but if you listen to his inventive responses to the ability to construct lines that build a structure ... it will never be equaled ... his music has an internal beauty ... tone ideas playing on the underside of the note ... never got the rewards he deserved ...

I don't feel that his mind or thoughts had anything to do with his playing, maybe his heart or soul, or maybe like Kieth Jarrett he just played from nothing which is the best and most creative way to express music.

In the hush of midnight's shadowed tune, Chet's trumpet weeps beneath the moon. Notes like teardrops softly fall, Echoes of a melancholy call. In smoky rooms where shadows dance, Chet's horn weaves a forlorn romance. A solitary sigh, a lonesome cry, As melodies of heartache amplify. His trumpet whispers tales untold, Of love that's young, and love grown old. Through muted brass, a mournful plea, A requiem for lost ecstasy. A lonely street, a dim-lit bar, Chet's music drifts like a fading star. In every chord, a soul laid bare, A sonnet of sorrow suspended in air. Each breath he takes, a heavy sigh, A wistful echo, a muted goodbye. Through amber notes, the pain unfolds, A symphony of sorrows, stories untold. The night embraces the mournful sound, As Chet's trumpet weeps, unbound. A ballad etched in shadows deep, In the music of Chet, the sadness seeps.

probably the best version of estate, and man there's some good takes of that song.. This one is just so good and airy. Almost haunting, especially toward the end... so good.

Suis d'accord, c'est de la drogue. The guitar sound of Catherine is an addiction to me. And it also may be another to hear a bass as Rassinfosse. I really love this Trio. It works as well as the one Chet Baker formed with Henning and Catherine, although Rassinfosse is not as well known. It's always a sheer joy to hear Philip Catherine and his distinctive sound. Excellent. 🎶💖👍🤗

One of my first Chet discoveries was a live version of Lament, in a club where somebody breaks a glass, with Philip Catherine and Jean Louis Rassinfosse - just stunning. Finally found this & can't stop listening. It lifts me up and takes me exactly where I need to be. Such a pouring out of love.💓
