Wow ! Initially I thought the new Tesco building was a football stadium ! I was once told that the great Graham Greene had a tooth extracted in Chesterfield about one hundred years ago. The dentist took out the wrong tooth !

My hometown, I see the tech is still there but the rest is unrecognisable, hope the civic theatre is still standing, thanks for the memories ❤

A lot of the land and sites are owned by developers awaitng funding.Mainly southern based which will see money syphoned away from the Town.

New build is VAT free renovation isn't so it's always cheeper to demolish and build new , it will end up loads of commercial empty like all the others they have destroyed the market and town centre trade with big rents and ridiculous parking charges

The Waterside area is a bit too far from the town centre and cut off by a major dual carriageway.

Makes me think some one bought the Station hotel for the land it was on and let it fall to bits so they could get permission to remove.

I'm certain the artists impressions on the included video link have been revised from their original designs. This whole area of Chesterfield is being developed as part of the Northern Gateway project which was previously known as the Sheffield City Region Infrastructure Fund, now known as South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority. The recently constructed offices on the donut are also part of this project, which look like the first phase of many to eventually develop all of the donut car park. Other recent developments associated with this grandiose town re-development are the new (replaced) multi-storey car park and the old Co-Op on Elder Way.

I can't believe how small the canal basin now is, I am sure it was going to be much bigger. Its way smaller than the Staveley marina.

It would be nice if this regional Infrastructure fund could be used to finance the costs to finish off the joining of the Chesterfield Canal to the main waterways of the UK so navigation between Chesterfield and Sheffield becomes a reality again. That would be a cause for celebration.

Hi Tim Shame it wasn’t a sunshine day but it didn’t spoil the content. At least the new tall building is brick so they won’t want to knock it down in 20 years time. Having said that it’s too tall and if the rest are as tall as indicated on their promo video, it will be a basin permanently in shadow and so the water will be a green lagoon 🤔

I am not sure if you saw the size of the canal basin from the video, but on the artists impressions it looked small. I am sure the tall building will fall down soon enough Richard.

Plenty of graffiti springing up. Is this classed as people expressing themselves through art? I think the brickwork on that office block is part of the design. That's why they were called blocks because that's all they are and many remain empty. Action groups are now being pre-empted and bulldozers are sent in with impunity.
