Chess, But Your Opponent Can Cheat

Ойындар

King of the Bridge Part 1 - a game of chess against a troll who seemingly makes up rules on the spot. If you catch your opponent cheating, you are allowed to cheat in response. I must capture all my opponent's pieces to win!

    Bad chess player here, can confirm. Pawns can't move backwards, they capture different than their move, promote at the far edge, can do a double move, can do en passent, there is castling but only if those pieces haven't moved, repeating patterns are suddenly a draw, you don't actually capture the king, and all of that is before starting to talk about the literal thousand years of history, strategy, openings, endings, etc. This "advanced chess" almost feels easier.

    I think it's very interesting to look for cheatless run. It forces you to play differently so that you are less vulnerable when you get cheated (e.g. rook jump all the way to your backrow). I think pawns are actually the most OP piece in this game, so make sure to keep a few unmoved to guard cheating. Keep your other pieces near pawns as well to react accordingly

  • @Kogarana1

    @Kogarana1

    Actually, I think the Bishop are the best in this variant. Olexa took advantage of them in his cheatless run: their ability to go outside the bounds of the board gives them amazing flexibility and they're probably very easy to utilize I kind of agree with you though. I think Pawns are still really useful for that, but personally I think are only second to Bishops in overall efficacy

  • @swordzanderson5352

    @@Kogarana1 Bishops are great for offense and setting up pieces with their Knowledge they leave behind and the fact that they can essentially attack from all sides and run out of bounds. OP didn't make it *crystal clear* though it is for me, they mean that pawns are the most OP in terms of safeguarding yourself from a potential cheat in a cheatless run, as it guarantees a cheatless trade in case the enemy cheat-takes a piece

    it might be fun to play this against another Human with each player having half of the Rule book. you could have hundreds of rules that get randomized every game. it would be playing chess as if you never played it before with each move being potentially legal or not forcing you to guess what rules your opponent has and which would be impossible with the Rules you have.

    2:04 if that’s what Tyler’s editors think is a nerdy correction then I’m gonna blow them out of the water. So in this scenario in a tournament game you wouldn’t actually need to say adjust. What Tyler is referring to here is the rule of “touch move” where if you touch your piece and can legally move it you have to move it, and if you touch your opponent’s piece and can legally take it you have to do so. However if you find a piece to be too off center and wish to adjust it without moving/capturing that piece you are able to say “adjust” beforehand so you aren’t forced to move it. So in this situation Tyler doesn’t have any legal moves that can capture the pawn, so he’s free to touch it as much as he likes without being forced to take it. And I want to make it clear the only reason I’m making this pedantic correction is because Tyler’s editors try to call Tyler a nerd for his comment, and I wanted to show them what a truly nerdy comment is.

    ... I feel like the duck might be a reference to an old programming story. An animator is working on the 3D models for a chess game. He makes the Queen have an animation where a duck (or swan) flies around her as she makes her movements, carefully never actually intersecting or interacting with her animations. He presents his animations to a project manager for approval, who says "this all looks great, but can you scrap the duck?" It's a lesson that people always want to contribute to the quality of something, even if they need to latch onto little things.

    Good ending took a little to get, but it's not too bad. Looking at steam achievements 35% players got it. It definitely took me a lot of attempts
