    it seems like the strat should be to just sacrifice all of your pieces. If your opponent can't capture any of your pieces they can get at most 8 points + whatever the king is worth, so if you sac your queen for a rook, your rooks for minor pieces, and minor pieces for pawns, it shouldn't be possible for your opponent to catch up

  • @flint9759

    @flint9759

    Often, a king is worth a game-winning number of points in these kinds of variants. I wouldn't be surprised if the point-based victory is purely to stop every endgame from ending in a draw from the 50 move rule. So if you sacrifice all your pieces ASAP, then the opponent could just take your king and win the game.

  • @flint9759

    @flint9759

    There probably is no official 'check' in this variant and instead you have to capture the opponent's king. It's probably then worth an absurd number of points when you capture it, so you're guaranteed to win. The points are probably just to stop endgames from becoming draws by the 50 move rule or from all pieces being petrified.

    I'm guessing that the points system is because they don't expect a checkmate to happen with so many impregnable stone walls, and the pawn moving sideways is to avoid games being over too fast when they hit a wall, but then players become confused about what's they're supposed to be going for, making chess just a "don't lose pieces" game is boring
