I love crossing the bridge in fog or low cloud cover! When you're going up and you break through to blue sky, it feels like you're ascending to heaven. When you start to go back down into the clouds or fog, it feels like you're headed into the pits of the unknown. Very eerie, but cool! May the bridge gods keep you safe from scaredy cats, rubber neckers, and jumpers on your travels! 🤣

***LET ME EXPLAIN, I HAVE CROSSED IT BILLONS OF TIMES.....THEY HAVE 2 BRIDGES, 1-EAST & 1-WEST BOUNDS...*** sometimes if work/maintenance is done on one bridge, close it & have all traffic use 1 bridge or in summer, many ppl go to ocean city w/miles of creeping traffic, so they will send some traffic on the west bound bridge at beginning of weekend & do opposite on Sunday to ease back ups going home. Red or green arrows will adv if ur safe to travel in a specific lane.

I live in MD. I was next to a tractor trailer who wasn't paying attention and rear ended the car infront of him and I watched him push the car off the side of the bridge. One of the most scariest times of my life. The woman lived as well. Those commenting whats wrong with this, have never been on this bridge. This video was recorded at the least highest part of the bridge. This is one of the tallest bridges in America, due to allowing ships into the port of Baltimore.

I have crossed this bridge a few hundred times now. I know for a fact the bridge literally states, stay in your lane, and do not change lanes. Seeing as you changed lanes anyways, you are the person I will be looking out for.

I live right by that bridge. Been driving over it my whole life so it doesn't even faze me. The reason for the third lane being oncoming traffic is because the Eastbound span is the older span and it only has 2 lanes so during the summer or high traffic times they open that third lane on the Westbound span to keep traffic moving. I'm sure it's disconcerting for people who aren't familiar with it! (And probably even for some who are...) If you really want a wild experience take a drive on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel - 17 miles long and it goes over and under the water multiple times. It's really something!

The south lane on the wider north bridge changes through the day to help with the heavy traffic the bridges have during rush hours. But when they still had the toll booths running on the west end the traffic use to get so backed up it would go back 1-2 miles. Also you not supposed to change lanes or pass when you are on the bridge

No idea why people think it’s so scary to cross. Traffic lanes are the same width as usual and you drive on roads with oncoming traffic everyday.

It's much better than just a single lane heading in each direction on a two-lane bridge. (As it was before MD added the new 3 lane bridge in parallel to the old 2 lane bridge) Smartest thing they ever did was to double the price of the toll, but only collect it heading in one direction (East) and then completely eliminate the toll and toll booths when returning (West)

@Worrywart Adventures , no, you're on the west bound span which is newer, wider, and three lanes. The east bound span is narrower, only two lanes and doesn't have any special markings to keep opposing traffic further apart.
