Chernobyl is an example that sometimes reality is more terrifying than fiction. Looking forward to the next episode.

Something the makers of the show changed for entertainment purposes in this episode is the way the coal minister and coal miners interacted. The Deputy Minister of Mining met with the miners, and basically gave them 24 hours to be ready to go to Chernobyl...there was no humorous coal dust on the suit moment. But it is entirely understandable why the makers of the show sought to put some humor into the script, and the miners were heroes andthus deserving of some adaptation to make them look even more heroic. The meeting between the Minster and miners is covered in the History vs Hollywood article I recommended...as is the fact that the miners did not work in the nude.

Oh outside the effect of radiation, how quick it works, the series is historically accurate. Be sure you watch ALL THE ENDING CREDITS.

Hey Marley, great reaction. The wife was told not to touch her husband in the hospital, but never why. The dangers of radiation were never told to the people. For more info about those used to clean up, do a search for Chernobyl Liquidators. One of the things the series really played down was the effects of radiation on the plant workers and the firemen. The one who was interviewed who head was completely wrapped had no face. The USSR was a complete police state. Stalin was actually worse than Hitler.

As Ukrainian from liquidator family, I agree with every point. In fact because it was so poorly understood I was nearly aborted (doctors persuaded my family to do that).
