We have a discussion with the Director of IIT Madras Kamakotti, Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is a public technical university located in Chennai (formerly named Madras), Tamil Nadu, India. As one of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), it is recognized as an Institute of National Importance and has been consistently rated as one of India's most prestigious universities. Founded in 1959 with technical and financial assistance from the former government of West Germany, it was the third IIT established by the Government of India. IIT Madras is ranked the top engineering institute in India by the Ministry of Education's National Institutional Ranking Framework since its inception in 2016.
IIT Madras is a residential institute that occupies a 2.5-square-kilometer (0.97 sq mi) campus that was formerly part of the adjoining Guindy National Park. The institute has nearly 600 faculty, 10,000 students, and 1,250 administrative and supporting staff.[12] Growing ever since it obtained its charter from the Indian Parliament in 1961, much of the campus is a protected forest, carved out of the Guindy National Park, home to large numbers of chital (spotted deer), blackbuck, bonnet macaque, and other rare wildlife. A natural lake, deepened in 1988 and 2003, drains most of its rainwater.

It may not be adequate to only increasing the number of students in IITs. There is a need to improve the quality of education in other engineering colleges so that the knowledge, skill and competence of outgoing engineering students shall closely match with those of IITs.
Mr. Kamakoti is really a great Gift to I.I.T., Madras. !! He has made such a great Transformation to the Institution. The way the Institution is launching New Programs and achieving Great success is entirely due to Mr. Kamakoti,s Focus.. He is sure to Win the Noble Prize , one day for sure. !!

People are comparing the quality of the students of normal engineering colleges with IITs. The difference lies in the facility and the funding that IIT receives are something that you cannot match with normal colleges. That difference is to be bridged first.

Why iit students becoming a successful engineers why not other engineering students get so successful compared to iits
any age limit for Bsc at IIT online course ?
Though I understand bits of Tamil, can you add subtitles please?
Worlds best institutions like stanford, MIT etc are giving online bachelor and masters degrees with hefty costs attached to it. If IITM gives that quality of degree without cost its ok. If they charge it heavily then whats the point?. Nowdays people will give job only for skills and talent not for distinguished degrees. Intelligent peoples clearing JEEE to get into IIT because they dont want to pay money for studying plus they get stipends. Also after completion they are hired by big companies with good package. Such is the case for MBA iits provide mba and iims where would students go. Best environment and quality staffs dont matter without job opportunity.
There is another myth that students who clear IIT JEE exams are geniuses But that is not true. Solving real basic science/engineering problems are entirely different from solving a book-back problem. To solve a basic science/engineering problem, one needs to have a strong attitude and be ready to work even if they fail again and again. I know a friend who was once working as a lorry driver for 6 years is actually doing a Ph.D. in Italy in quantum information theory.
