@persistente1 and raise your posture,, don't sit too low until you have 'earned' it. you must be careful of your knees in tai chi. you can damage them. do not twist them. always pivot on the heel of the foot. ask your teacher about your alignment/ posture. or go see a physiotherapist. if you rub your knees a lot and keep them warm that will help them get better. good luck.

Wow, these are some great exercises. Wouldn't recommend some of those for beginners though. Guy is definitely bad ass.

This guy has very good flexibility and conditioning to begin with. These are not exercises for beginners, although they can be adapted by making movements less extreme, especially the more vigorous movements and the knee rotations. Start off SLOWLY and build up GRADUALLY. The knee joints are particularly vulnerable in Taiji practice if you don't take care of proper alignment, also too much load on the knees over time will cause excess wear and can lead to ligament and cartiladge damage. There are plenty of other excellent Taiji warm up and joint mobility exercises to build up the strenth, flexibility and looseness over time. The goal is to achieve 'song', not to be a gymnast or Wushu competitor. For less flexible and well conditioned bodies I would recommend something more like this other video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/omWHmZqxYMm1etI.html

Hello I start practicing taichi, but my knees are killing me I can not hold on them. Should I continue with my exercises? Do you think pain is going away?.

@persistente1 : do your shoes fit? does it still hurt in bare feet? the front knee in a front stance should not go beyond the vertical line of the front toe,, some say not beyond the knuckle of the toe,, if you lean/let your knee go too forward you will definitely get pain in your knees. you can practice standing on one leg using a table or chair as an aid, then use two fingers to lean against then one, then none,, this may help your alignment. don't do knee circling exercises. be careful!!!

I agree, good advice. The hips need to open more and sacrum needs to tuck in gently. That way the load is supported by the hip and sacral area rather than transfering too much load to the knees. The knee joint is designed to operate brilliantly along one line of movement i.e. aligned with hip joint and ankle joint. If you rotate inwards or outwards from this line then you put a lot of strain on the smaller ligaments and also put excess pressure on the cartilages, especially the miniscus. This will not be noticeable for some years, but micro tears will ecentually lead to more serious and painful damage. BE VERY CAREFUL, you will depend on your knees for all of your life for good mobility and balance, don't damage them early and pay dearĺy later on in life.
