Chemistry: Rust and Corrosion
Rust and Corrosion are no long directly mentioned in the new study design, however it is a good application of REDOX and can help to understand how the principles of redox can be applied to everyday situations.
A quick video showing how rust is formed by the redox reaction between iron and hydrogen and oxygen.
Enjoy.

I know this video is old, but it's still very relevant and helpful! Thanks mate, chemistry exam tomorrow, I think I'll pass because of you :)
Thanks for the feedback. Glad to help. Remember there are a whole bunch of other VCE Chem videos on my channel.
helpful :)

O2(g) + 2H2O(l) + 4e- --> 4OH¬-(aq) (Fe(s) --> Fe2+(aq) + 2e-) x 2 as you need to balance the electrons. Add these equations together and you get: O2(g) + 2H2O(l) + 2Fe --> 2Fe2+(aq) + 4OH-(aq) OR: O2(g) + 2H2O(l) + 2Fe --> 2Fe(OH)(s) as you can combine the iron and hydroxide as a precipitate/ solid rust.
