Chemically dipping a whole 1969 Mercury Cougar to remove all the paint and rust
Chemically stripping the paint and rust off this classic 1969 Mercury cougar convertible.
This was a pretty simple job. The paint wasn’t tough at all and there was barely any rust. You may notice the bracing where the doors were. We recommend structurally reinforcing all cars but especially convertibles. That way it ensures there is no flexing or warping.

You guys did a great job! The car is at the body shop now and we're getting ready to address those quarters. I'll make sure to share some photos when it's done!

You gotta do it! I’m curious to see what the base is now that you have a clean body. 2 part primer, then black?

Even after I haven't been an industrial painter for more than 10 years, I still find well prepared steel beautiful. Man, there was nothing like sand blasting mill scale off and watching that profile shape up. I would often draw shapes and then blast em smooth. You know.... For science
SWEET. Just brought back a memory from late ‘60s. I was still riding bicycles. Me and a friend rode our bikes to a row of garages where his older brother had a garage and was working on a car. Chevy is all I remember at that age. Well when we got there he had the paint and primer totally off the body. I didn’t know any better. Two days later we rode our bikes back over to the garage. Horror. The body had rust ALL OVER THE BODY. I can only imagine what he had to do next because we never went back to check. Ahh the good ol days. Thank You 🙏
Thank you ! Watching these videos is so cathartic for me. For me, it doesn’t really matter the make of vehicle ( even though I’m a Ford guy) that is going into the tank, it just the process of “before an after” that does it for me. Great video, keep up the good work !
I had a 67 cougar when I was a kid. Had the 289ci engine. I got 2 speeding tickets and sold it! Loved the old headlights with vacuum powered covers!
Great job restoring these timeless, priceless classics.
Impressed that you guys installed the stay braces across the door openings to prevent the body distorting 👍🏻👍🏻

Someone learned that the hard way. It's bad enough to lift it dry without them, but with all that liquid in it, it would get tweaked pretty badly.

I can imagine that it would probably fold like a mens wallet without them. 🤔
Fantastic condition, one of the best american 60.s/70's cars I've seen dipped by you! Love the Acid-Cam as well!
Wow, you ain't joking, that chassis/unified body is really solidly clean, well done.
I don't know why I find your videos so relaxing I'm really enjoying watching keep up the awesome work
This was excellent, amazing how it came out, I've seen blasting but I've never seen start to finish chemical stripping. Great stuff.
I had a '69 Torino dipped. It was such a time saver in the end that it probably saved 4x over the cost of the dip in my labor alone.
Awsome shots of the dipping process, especially under the dip which I never seen. 👍 great job.
It's great there's services like this around. I wonder what it costs.
Thank You for making this video! That was super cool to watch! I've never seen that done before and the 69 cougar was my very first car! That's amazing the process in doing that! Thank You!
Good grief I can't believe that is in that kind of shape!! Someone has got themselves a super nice build there! Great job on the dip and cleanup as well. I enjoyed the video. 👍👍
That's an amazing body shell from what I can see good luck with the build
Absolutely great job, guys. Finally this Cougar will be in better condition than in 1969.

NOT acid is trapped and will cause rust in between every pinch weld of whole car If you can't dip it in primer you ruin a car this way Lifelong body shop owner 40yrs I've seen the years later effects of this sadly on cars people put BIG bucks in
One of the most satisfying videos I have ever watched!

Wow!... You are Not Kidding. She's in Great Shape for that many years/miles etc
Can't stop watching your videos. Great job! Nice transformation of a pice of mess. ❤️
I had one of those, sold it a few years ago. It had zero rust and I loved it. You can see the car in my video. Wish I still had her, she turned heads everywhere❤
Ah, how I wanted a 69 Cougar!! Glad to see a restoration in progress.
I enjoy seeing all the different colours it was
Ouuuuuuuuu weeeeeee, that baby looks super clean and ready to build.
I'm surprised this isn't done more often. It's such a great idea. Nothing protects like this process. I'd love to see them galvanize it afterwards.
Your videos are awesome! You should do some follow up videos with the owners when the car is done, we would love to see those
Nice camera work coming from the tank, well done.

The only way but I can just imagine the years I would have to work to get it done. Great day to you 6.
That's beautiful man
That's crazy clean 😲
That's how you begin a frame up restore the right way.
I had a 69 cougar , blue and white ..my favorite car.. My hubby bought me a 68 cougar and i made him get rid of it ,not my 69 cougar.. That one you all dipped had alot of layers of pant on it.. Thank for sharing..🥰
A flawless job
finally someones restoring a cat one of my favorite cars I'm sure it s gonna be great getting a complete restoration !
I was expecting holes, really solid car!!!
Nicely done, it's the only real way to do it right.
The vin tag came out mint. She is clean.
If not for all the cancer fumes this seems like a very enjoyable and gratifying job.
Great work
Excellent, congratulations!
That is in great shape for a convertible
That car was definitely needing that bath. It now will have a fresh new start at life again.

That was awesome.
Must be nice to get to start the work with a nice clean fully stripped car.Major labor savings for the restorer
It looks great after all that old paint and things are removed
Invest in a spreader bar for attaching ropes to the cars, super clean job
Great job guys, what an awesome car!
I WATCHED YALL DIP THE 70 CHEVELLE😭 MY HUSBAND PASSED AND I STILL HAVE HIS. IT MADE ME CRY. LIKE A BITTERSWEET CRY. HE WOULD SOOO BE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF WHAT YOUR DOING. HE JUST NEVER GOT TO RESTORE IT.😭. GREAT JOB. WHERE ARE YA LL LOCATED?
Great job. And I have never seen a more obvious shot of the whole shock tower situation that makes running the big blocks in these cars such a challenge. Headers and plugs would be a struggle. Cheers 🍺
Here in the rust belt we dream of cars in this condition
This video checked soooo many boxes!
That’s awesome
Awesome!
Those are really nice cars and there's not many of them I'd like to see it done also
Nice and shiny
Amazing
Idk why but this looks like a fun job😅
Mercury Cougar.... Always the red-headed step child to the Ford Mustang.
This is the correct dangle
What do you do inside the seat risers? It’s a cavity, usually rusts out from the inside. It is cool that it looks like a bright yellow car. Same with the cowl vent area , how would you coat it after its stripped?
Boy I'd love to see a whole submarine done that way.
how far ahead you are, I wish we had this technology in Greece too
I thought about doing this with my classic British roadster, but I'm pretty sure nothing would come out of the dip tank.

Nice car.
soon as the pressure washer hits; "oh god that's satisfying"
I think that turbo nozzle is doing 90% of the work
It was made in the era I was born and I worked on those in the beginning of my career and I miss the 60/70/& early 80's cars. Life was good and better than today Didn't take a 25 hour ticket to put a motor in something like a Toyota Sequoia or something like 6 Today cars and trucks are just too over engineered for working on them like before. Glad I am getting closer to retirement. LOL
One x clowns in America retired I worked around had orange one in perfect shape he drove all time looked like same body style. Said had trans fixed before
Amazing...
Is it correct soda blasting body shells is the usual method now as not all the acid can be removed with dipping?
Wish my cousin had this set up when I was young on school holidays but no, bucket of water and wet/ dry sand paper
MUY BUEN CASCO PARA RESTAURAR👏👏👏👏
I sure could use your help on my car
Now That's a pressure washer.
Would not want to fall into that dip 😳
I wish that was in my Dart budget!
I could watch these all day and I always have a question. Would it help if there was a small circulating pump in the tanks to move the solutions around to work more?
@minute_of_dangle

It does help! We actually have a pump that circulates the chemicals but I have to remove it everytime we pull a car out

@@minute_of_dangle Hi, what's the chemistry in the container?
Is it dipped it something to keep it from getting a surface rust on removal? I think it would be nice once the welding is done to dip in something that would coat all the inside channels. You could finnish bump and fill on the exterior panels then.
That’s a clean car. I’d be curious how it’s held up since dipping. I’ve heard stories of the chemicals leaching through pinch welds and seams later.

Like all Chemical Dip Processing, a proper Warm Water Rinse, is recommended! Sometimes it's Hot water, and Tipping, Rolling, etc, on something like this, to thoroughly Drain all solutions from the Metal Pockets, even before the Rinse, and again after! Even after the Pressure Wash Spray down.
@VicsGarage71
Жыл бұрын
@@robertweekley5926 yeah I think the issue is that it’s hard to properly rinse between seams, and then on top of that, coating those part’s after. I’d dip parts like fenders and individual panels… but to dip a whole car, unless it could be dipped in primer after, I’d be cautious.
Какая красота!))

Good job ,I had my 32 doors dipped , nice job But between over lapped panels seeping chemicals showed up later under paint. Rick
I used to have two caustic soda tanks, where I drip & stripped doors, I used to spray them down with a pressure washer, like you're doing, what chemical are you using in your tank?
What I can never understand is, surely when you strip all the paint off it will start rusting inside the cavities especially inside those A post's .

They rinse and then bake it but I can’t imagine they can get all of the acidic residue out of the seams. I’ve heard horror stories so personally I’d avoid this method

Every area you hit with the pressure wand would be the same areas reached with low pressure media blasting..Without leaving hidden areas (chassis, plenum, rockers)exposed to residual rust, paint, acid.

DEFINITELY SO ....I would never do this Blasting with walnut shells is the best
Wished I had my 68 back
How could a person get started in doing that kind of work and where would you get the chemicals for doing that or even the tanks .. where would y'all be located at
What’s the ball park price range on getting something like this done?
Ecencial na oficina modelo,da toda visão da reforma,, aí vc vê o bicho pega, , kkkk
Did you make after that zinc cover to preserve that beauty?
