Chemical Equilibrium Constant K - Ice Tables - Kp and Kc

This chemistry video tutorial provides a basic introduction into how to solve chemical equilibrium problems. It explains how to calculate the equilibrium constant k value given the equilibrium concentrations and equilibrium partial pressures of all reactants and products. If explains how to calculate the equilibrium constant k for a new reaction by changing another reaction. Finally, it discusses how to calculate the equilibrium constant k using ice tables.

    @Some Thing Not to be rude, but if you don't see the value in school in terms of entering higher income brackets, then I sort of question the intelligence you consider yourself to have. School isn't useless for intelligent people, and it isn't a waste of money (barring a few certain degrees). It's actually great for intelligent people. There's overwhelming data to support the reality that going to school allows you to get a higher paying job, and people with great intellect will have a much higher chance of succeeding in this. For instance, I consider myself to be a smart person who is super interested in medicine. Therefore, I am in a pre-medicine program with the intention of passing the MCAT and entering med school. Is going through that process in order to become a physician a waste of money? I wouldn't think so, because I'm entering a satisfying career with a very high salary. It's probably better if you don't project your academic shortcomings onto others. There are a lot of people who don't make it through school for any number of different reasons, get super bitter about it, and then tell people that school isn't worth it because they themselves didn't possess the faculties to succeed.

  • @guybien4621

    @guybien4621

    @Some Thing I don't think your general statement is generally true, though. You can very easily look at the median earnings graph available on the bureau of labor statistics page. Calling school useless for above average intelligence people and a waste of money is just untrue and in my opinion is highly misleading to the people who read your comment. You can claim you find it easier to learn outside of school than within school, that's completely fine (I'm often the same way), but I believe bringing money into it is irresponsible because the data we have available to us contradicts your claim. And I only used an anecdote because you did, but I'm happy to point you toward the resources I've looked at. Also, I didn't initially think what I said was rude and was more my honest assessment of the feelings behind your post, but if I was wrong on that end, then I apologize. After rereading, I now realize I incorporated assumptions of your personal life into my argument that were unnecessary and injurious. Admittedly, something I need to work on.

    Remember the units of Kc! If you ,for example, have the reaction 3H2 + N2 2NH3 And you are solving for Kc, place the concentrations in the formula. (NH3 mol/l)^2 / (H2 mol/l)^3•(N2 mol/l) Also you will have to deal with the mol/l part. The exponents of the denominator will have to be deducted from the numerator. So with only the units it will be (mol/l)^2 / (mol/l)^3•(mol/l)^1 =(mol/l)^2 / (mol/l)^4 =(mol/l)^(2-4) =(mol/l)^-2 I know this isn't the most important aspect of these calculations, but remember that Kc can and usually does have a unit after it. This unit can vary from calculation to calculation or in some cases there is no unit. Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

    I don't understand how universities pay professors to fail to teach. I've learned more from 5 minutes of these videos than I have all summer from someone who had a doctorate in chem. My only regret is now I have to play catchup.
