Chemical dipping a 1971 Dodge Charger to remove all the paint and rust before the restoration
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I will be removing all the paint and rust off of this 1971 dodge charger. With this video I went into a little more detail and explained things a little more. This was actually going to be my fist KZread video. This car was finished over the summer and I just got around to editing the video all together. Let me know what you all think about this sty of video compared to the shorter versions I’ve been posting. Do you guys like me going over the cars a little more between steps?
This was also one of the hardest paints I’ve had to remove. This was a stubborn car!

Had a 73, loved that damned car to death. Was my first car I bought it at 16 in high school, drove the hell out of it til I graduated. When I was getting ready to leave for the Air Force I sold it. 23 years later, I retired and found the car but couldn't buy it back. Would love to hear that giant 440 screaming again. Loving your vid, wishing I still had mine.
That was fun to watch. If I ever achieve my dream of collecting 60’s muscle cars I’m sure I’ll need to have a friend like this gentleman here. Good work.
You do nice work. I wonder if you could shoot your videos in a wider frame so we don't just see a narrow view. Thanks.

Yeah, this was clearly shot with mobile devices in mind.
I love the way you spare us the boring details. Straight to the finish. Before, After. Bravo! Why do some people think that if say, they have to thread 12 bolts, we care to see numbers 2-11? No matter how fast they show it. Just first and last will do thank you!
Such a cool process! I could watch this all day!!
My first real “hot rod” was a 71 charger. I got it when I was 14 & the bodywork took 1/2 of a school year before it was ready for paint. Originally had a 318 & an automatic, but I switched it to a 440 & a 4 speed. God, I loved that car, but it was huge.
That paint was stubborn AF wasn’t it. I liked the new walkthrough of the before and after. 🥰👍🏻

Surprised the quarters were that good. Even with those floors that's actually very little rust for a Mopar from the ones I've seen. Great video!

Yessir, I bought a '71 challenger in '88 and the floor pans were already shot. Next to the door resided several license plates to cover the holes.... and that was after 17 years.
My Dad had a 1971 Charger - this video brings back a few memories!
Interesting to watch and learn. If there was an etching dip to add some teeth for paint to adhere to minimize sanding every crevice.
Much better video if you film in horizontal mode. Definitely a lot of good metal left on this baby. Easy restore
THis is absolutely the best channel for me to watch for my OCD relief.
Its such a shame the cars of this era rust so badly otherwise more of them would survive really enjoying watching your videos and the variety of cars that are coming through

Fantastic to see this process thanks man!
Very well done! The man is a professional.
Cool process-wish I was nearer with the means to do that-starting with clean metal is so nice
Glad you included the 2nd power wash during the paint strip. These are the most satisfying! First power wash is the best, but then we see those stubborn areas and can’t wait to see those down to bare metal and you skip them! Not this time though. Final blast and walkthrough are great also. Thinking of subscribing. Thanks for the content!
Damn my color blindness with reds is strong, I straight up see a red, not an orange color on that. Almost cherry red, slight orangish tints to it, but red to me. These videos are oddly satisfying and relaxing to watch, also interesting to see what becomes of them after a few dips and washes, is it as bad as it looks? Worse? Better? Let’s find out
You really do great work!
Finally! A Dodge. Loved it.
Wow! Cool process.
I have restored many cars from the 1940s to mid 70s. All that nasty stripping and rust prep. I really want to try this stripping method next. Your videos are really fun to watch all that old cr@$ pressure washing away!
Isso sim é um trabalho de restauração excelente, e esse clássico é muito top ! merece ser restaurado, vai ficar melhor de quando saiu da fábrica.
Excelente quedó esa carrocería!!!!
nice job, interesting to see the process and how effective it is
I love these videos. If you're still using a cell phone probably time to step up to a gopro and record in 16:9 ratio. My only criticism but I'm sure you're working on that. have any of these dipped cars owners sent you updates on their restorations???

Nice touch on the terminator!
If you turn your phone on it's side you get a really nice widescreen 👍🏻
How often do you have to change your tanks? Also what psi is your pressure washer?
Wish I found you when I was cleaning up my 1957 Oldsmobile..😁
Mate, those are working hands 👍🏾 🫡
I have done a lot of restorations on my own cars. I always used either mechanical stripping or old fashion air craft stripper. I have 2 cars I love and when it comes time to restore them I'm getting them chemical dipped. Both are amazingly rust free so there shouldn't be too much Swiss cheese!
What happens with doors, trunk and hoods? Do customer have to do them, or do you do them separate?
Every time, when I see that thumb up sinking scene - I drop a small tear from my eyes…
Really nice job! What do you use to prevent it from rusting? What is the PSI and GPM of your pressure washer?
I love that he throws in a hornet's nest before pressure washing them. It's the mark of a true professional. Probably keeps the looki-loos at bay. I know I hate it when people look over my shoulder when I'm trying to work.

Basically KOH or NaOH solution to strip and Citric or acetic acid to neutralize and remove rust
super cool. for a classic car this process is a no-brainer. ...but with that much rust...seems like the owner should do some repair work before dipping because he will lose both structure (what's left of it) and reference points.
The little terminator forgot to say, I'll be Back "😁😁😁
I was thinking about dipping my grand national my only thought is the tank will strip all coating from insides of rockers n frame rails if I can't get to those areas to coat they will rust in future
How much does it cost to do a car like that ?
Just caught this, brilliant! Just invest in a better full-screen camera. I'm hooked!
wow
Reminds me of Terminator 2 when Schwarzenegger's terminator gets lowered into the vat of hot metal in the end. Lol
Hi brilliant job what chemical do you use ,jm in the UK and I don't know anywhere we can get it done here
I was wondering how you flush out the hidden areas, such as rockers, door hinge reinforcement areas, etc after each dip. If I could be sure of getting all the chemicals out of these areas and others, such as the pinch welds, I would love to try this on my next build. Thanks for best video/explanation I've ever seen on how this process works!

Problem I’ve heard is that down the road, it leaches between the seams and pinch welds. Causes it to blister and swell. It’s why I avoided it on my 71 Charger I’m doing on my channel. I know there is a place that does dip it in primer after. That MAY be better. But it wasn’t anywhere near me. So I went with blasting.
@Neo1969

@@drifter9425 You are correct. You can never get all of the acid removed from the seams of the car after the dipping process. Have witnessed firsthand this issue on many cars after a few years being restored. The acid will seep out and literally turns the paint to a brownish gold color wherever the acid seeps out from.
@Neo1969
Жыл бұрын
@@VicsGarage71 It does leach out after a little while. Seen this happen on many cars personally. I personally would never dip a car unless I planned on taking the body all apart at the factory seams.
knowing the paint & clear coat on some cars is likely to be a problem, do you ever run over it with a sander & say, 120 grit paper for 20 mins or to open up the paint surface and thereafter allow the first dip to do more? Just curious 🙂

Man I would have replaced floor and fixed frame with body off and leave body as is and just sand the body rust and fix the rust holes with new sheet metal then paint my patched metal areas with primer base clear and sand down and make a rustic beautiful looking barn find type paint job that looks rough but it's solid and not really rough just looks it but I know this is a 71 and needed a chemical bath bad. I built my own chemical bath as well for doing racecar chassis for asphalt oval and dirt I dip the whole chassis then paint them fresh for each race season for the dirt latemodel and every two seasons for the asphalt pro truck and modified and I used it to take a 1992 left hander Camaro stub latemodel chassis that is out dated and good for outlaw latemodel stock class and it was surface rust and when I was done the frame looked like it was brand new with fresh coat of powder coat it's beautiful car now. Great job as well man
With the metal now exposed how do you stop it from getting a coat of rust on it ?
is it possible to start filming these in widescreen
Curious what the ballpark budget is for that job?
How much you charge
That works for me
the longer videos are better and more informative, still great work.
What chemicals tanks do you have there?
What neutralizes the rust? Phosphate?
Wow, great job on this video! Loved it. Where are you located? Country? City?
the floor isnt as bad as i expected
Where are you located? And how much do you charge for a complete car?
How often do you have to change the chemicals?

How long for each car sank into chemical acid?
Would love to see all the bondo on that charger fly off with the pressure washer. Leaving nothing left to the imagination for the car restorer.
