Chemical dipping a 1969 BMW 2002
Chemically Removing the paint and rust off a 1969 BMW 2002 prior to a restoration.
First step- alkaline paint removal.(it took two dips in the alkaline but I skipped the second because it was redundant)
Second step- acid bath to remove rust.
Third step- applying a rust inhibitor (wasn’t able to get that on video) #cars #bmw #restoration #acid #rustremoval #paintremoval #powerwashing #pressurewashing

As a detailer, I thought I was good at getting things clean. Turns out this guy REALLY knows how to clean👍👍
The basic condition of the chassis is insane, if you remember how bad the corrosion protection of these BMW are.Worth a top Restauration 👍
It's amazing how well the body has held up over those years!

Там машины долго хорошо сохраняются. У нас соль индегрдиенты быстро уничтожают кузовшину😁😁😁 Россия блин.

@@Redeemer2012 зачем в расплавленный в видео вроде и в цинкувую окунули. Нельзя нам цинковый кузов евреи так решили и тему эту закрыли. Идеальный вариант для автозавод в что машина год жила и на новую замена. Миллионики движки закрыли же тему. 80 т и хорошь😁😁😁

That's in incredible condition. A great basis for a restoration or restomod.
I had a brief opportunity to drive and work on one of these 2002s back in the 1970s, when I was in college. It was a friend's car and rather than let it sit over a month-long holiday between semesters, she asked me to take it home with me. While I had it, I did a lot of maintenance that had been neglected, oil changes and such. Wish I could have done more! It was a nice car to work on and a great car to drive. When it came time to go back to school, I had no choice but to drive 50 or 60 miles through a January ice storm... One of very few cars on the slick roads that day, it was amazing how well that Beemer did. They just don't build them like that any more! I'm very glad to see a nice example being saved! 😎
Hi, I am in New Zealand. I have had a few cars dipped. It is a very good way to find all of the corrosion that exists. That 02 is in fantastic condition. It definitely deserves a top restoration. They are a very cool car.

This popped up on my feed. WOW! I was not expecting that, those thing are rare due in part to rust prevention (or rather lack of), used at the time. Amazing shape for restoration, must have been looked after or had work done previous. Read the chemicals are Environmentally friendly, guess that's why the paint was a a bit of a mare. In UK a lot of places still using stuff which ain't, good at stripping, nightmare for safe disposal. Should have guessed as you were able to use rope any not metal to hang it off. Liked that 👍

Don't know why I'm drawn to these videos so much. It's like staring at a camp fire. Pretty cool though to watch the bare metal come through.

Сама краска отмокала в ванне с хим раствором, вот именно ванна, раствор и подъемник это самое дорогое, ну и сами работы, такое дешево не стоит, потому что это редко кто делает, плюс вредный процесс. Кто пробовал когда нибудь снимать краску растворами, например с металла (маленькие баночки с такой химией продаются в строительных и автомагазинах), тот знает что в помещении наладиться невозможно, дышать нечем, глаза слезятся, даже если немного обработать, например одно крыло от кузова. А тут огромная ванна такой химии на много тонн, короче жесть, находится там без респиратора и дольше 5 минут я бы не стал. Ещё очень важно хорошо смыть эту химию, она затекает в лонжероны, через любые отверстия, может долго там находиться, начинать жрать металл постепенно, плюс испаряться и травить организм. По хорошему после такой ванны с химией нужна ванна с чистой водой чтобы вымыть всю химию

Bring these classics back to their former glory. I had two of these and they were a hoot. Nothing like the rolling computers that BMW are churning out now. These had soul.
That just saved a sh!t ton of work and reveal's hidden rust that may otherwise go unnoticed.
Most pleasant thing what I have seen for a while, dipping makes honor for 2002 to keep it shape 👌
So satisfying to watch... hate sanding! Not to mention those old 2002 "roundies" are one of my dream cars.

Super clean chassis. 👍 I will always have a soft spot for an '02 roundie! 😁 Gotta love the undercoat, paints, cavity wax/ fluid film/ cosmoline, etc that BMW uses. All 8 of my bimmers held up really well and resisted rust and rot pretty decently as well. Much better than a lot of other makes, especially Japanese cars which are made out of recycled tuna and soda cans LOL 😆 Thanks for sharing, and I know that car will make someone really happy if build correctly with the right 'OEM+' type of parts IMO. They are great on the track with a legit coilover/ suspension setup and a decent drivetrain like an s14/ associated trans/ LSD diff would be a blast. 🙂 Thank you for sharing bro. 👍👍😎

Another without knowledge... dipping isn't the pinnacle of restoration, far from it . The internal cavities are all exposed and bare . I have restored hundreds if not thousands of vehicles over the past 35 years and the amount of post dip issues I've seen haven't made me dip any of my personal cars .... that should tell you something .

@@darioliotine7715 between inner and outer sill / rocker panels , Any box sectional chassis area , Voids between panels on rear quarters , folded seam edges on doors , boot / trunk , bonnet ..... basically anywhere you can't see with the naked eye . I prefer the wet blasted or machine sand and strip approach if the body is good , that way you don't compromise the integrity of the hidden structure by leaving bare untreated areas . If you do a real rot job often dipping is preferred , but to be fair if it needs dipping it's for the scrap imo or rarer than a truthful politician and worth a small fortune .

В жарких странах с теплым климатом тачки сохраняются десятилетиями. Это у нас в Рашке с реагентами в крупных городах они за 5 лет сгнивают

Потому что эта бмв стояла всю жизнь наездив не больше 100 тысяч сумарно. Это в СНГ машины либо гоняют в хвост и в гриву, этого продают.

First solution could be a warm KOH solution, a classic in paint removal jobs, even on wooden doors. Neutralize and remove rust with acetic acid (vinegar) wash and add rust inhibitor. But one needs three large tanks of water and gantry crane or similar.
