I attended the game. It was a bitterly cold Sunday. I'm a Liverpool supporter. Great days, great memories. Thankfully, our great days are back. Chelsea have had many good ones in the interim.

If I recall, this was the first live match of the season. There'd been a blackout on live football during the 85/86 season up until then.

You're right that there was a blackout in the first half of that season as the clubs and TV companies couldn't agree a deal. But this wasn't the first live game. Liverpool's match at Watford 2 weeks before was also shown and a quick search suggests Charlton v West Ham in the FA Cup was shown the week before that as the first live game of the season.

Also remember watching this on The Big Match, as a young Liverpool fan. Remember Jimmy Greaves' comments at half time...''Liverpool go a goal up and they don't deserve it'

Was at that game. Liverpool supporter at the Shed End. Living in London at the time, mate was a Chelsea supporter, insisted we go there. Unbelievably stupid thing to do. Let's just say it wasn't one of the best decisions i ever made.

@@samcurtisrobinson Yep, couldn't keep the joy from erupting when Liverpool scored the first goal. My saving grace was that being crammed in together on the terrace made it impossible for the knob heads to really swing a leg or a punch properly. I ducked, dived and disappeared down out of the line of sight and their inherent short attention spans meant I was safe after about a minute. It was a dodgy, painful, minute though.

@@davidmiles2636 These people who you think was priced out. Seemed to have alot of money for lots of other things. All seater grounds made it different. I know loads who went 80s dropped out 90s. But they spent loads on other things. 33k gate was 27k Chelsea who packed the stand where the camera's was. When the old West Stand was 2/3 empty it really was not that loud. Loads didnt go when it was cheap. Was 12k Leicester at home not long after that Liverpool game. 17k Qpr. 16k Oxford. Yet people who never went 80s years later was spending fortunes on lots of things

This seems a strange argument. If tickets were £5 in 1986 and £50-60 now there are obviously going to be people who can't afford to go regularly now. Those people will have £5 a week (plus inflation) they would have paid to spend on other things but that doesn't mean they can afford current ticket prices.

paul smith thanks I didn't know that. I presumed it was down to Ken bates considering what he did with the electric fence thing!! I think QPR were the only other team in london along with arsenal and West Ham to not install fences and you're right about not stopping fans if they were set on getting on the pitch!!
