Chellsie's Adult Gymanstics Journey: Week 16 Part 2

I love this video and I love tumbling! This was such a fun pass to try again and I will definitely keep working on. I love that my 3 day a week training plan ( 3 days of gymnastics and two of conditioning) is still working well and I am able to make the progress that I am!
Thank you Stacey!

This comeback is so timely because it carries so many relevant messages: - It's possible to achieve results with non-abusive training and coaching - Your age should not determine your gymnastics - The importance of the athlete having an active voice - Gymnastics can be performed at elite level after becoming a mom Keeo on keeping on, we're right here supporting you! Btw, great interview on GMA :)

I agree, but I don't think that just anyone could get back to an elite level. Especially as a mother unless you have ALOT of help. The amount of time you have to spend in the gym training is not doable for many parents. I wouldn't be able to and my kids are 24, twins who are 20, and a 15 year old. All able to take care of themselves but my youngest still needs me for some things. Plus I have to work to provide so it would be unrealistic to devote the amount of time it takes to seriously train. She's still slim but she is heavier now than she used to be and after two pregnancies your center of gravity changes. You don't move the same way. I was never an elite gymnast but my sister was. She had to stop when she broke her back after a fall on the beam. In competition. And although she's still able to throw many skills she had a hard time after she had my nephew. I think Chellsie is very inspirational to adult women everywhere that they can still be great but I don't think that it's realistic for many to get back to the top. She has a good chance in my opinion, but she also has the ability to put in the time and effort that it takes.

@@madreep Oh I agree. It takes A LOT to get back into Elite shape like this. I forget her name, but there's a Romanian gymnast who has competed at over 10 Olympic Games (for different countries) in WAG, and she's in her 40s. I wonder if she'll be there next year?

  • @madreep

@@bobbiestrella8160 Oksana Chusovitina. I think that it's amazing that she still competes at the elite level but I personally don't care to watch her. I'm not a fan. Her age does show as she only qualifies as a specialist anymore. She is very good on the vault but not so good as an all around gymnast. She's only medaled once at the Olympics. Maybe twice, I'm not sure, but never as an individual. I think she won a bronze team medal. I'm not trying to take away from her accomplishments at all, especially since I can't do any of what she does and I'm a year younger than her. I feel old lol. I would die if I even sprinted to the vault let alone throwing any skills once I got there. But she comes from a country that doesn't have enough ladies to make a team and she barely qualifies. She competes with 19 other girls who also comes from a country that doesn't have enough girls to make a full team. If she had any real competition she wouldn't still make it. She barely qualified for Tokyo. I think she made it by one one hundredth. So I don't think that it's necessarily skill that gets her there, it's luck. Romania has been horrible for years and once again they aren't going. But if they were and she was competing for a spot on their team, or the states, China, or any other country in Asia, and possibly Canada she would never make it. And for me the fact that she's still competing isn't a huge deal. Now if she was competing and actually medaling in international comp I would be shouting her praises along with everyone else. I just don't think she's great because it's the lack of strong competitors that gets her there and not talent. If Chellsie qualifies it will be because she deserves to be there because there is a ton of talent that she will have to compete against. Oksana has talent but she peaked 20 years ago. She's mediocre in my opinion. Still, her mediocre is better than what I can do so I'm really not trying to be a hater. She has a son with Autism that she's barely taken care of because she lives at the training center. I remember reading somewhere that she's really going to retire after Tokyo because he begged her. He wants and needs his mother.

@@leopoldo4561 You're welcome :) I'd definitely vote for Chellsie! I'm about the same age as her and I've been doing dance, acrobatics and circus arts (contortion, hand balancing, aerial silks/hoop/trapeze) my whole life. The last months I couldn't practice much though, because I was pregnant with my first child. She's only a month old at the moment and still needs my care 24/7, so I'm just starting with some easy yoga or pilates workouts for now (when I have the neccessary free time). I used to think my career as a performer was gonna be over after having a child and although I could still do it 'just for fun', it would just drive the perfectionist inside me insane... knowing I'm so much worse than I was before and that I'll never be able to get as good (or even better) as I used to be. Seeing ballerinas getting back into dancing for a company after having a child and gymnasts like Chellsie making a comeback after two pregnancies definitely inspired me to stay open and getting really good at my sport/art again has at least become a possibility for me now. Very inspiring!

I think what ur doing is so very important regardless of the comeback or doing it just for fun bc ppl need to see the positive side of gymnastics and not just all the negative there has been over the last few years. Watching you on this journey no matter where it takes u has now in part become ours too bc we all believe in u no matter what! Thank u for sharing ur positive side of the sport at a time where positivity is devastatingly needed!!

The piked barani has ALWAYS been your skill in my book! Also, my FAVORITE skill of yours has always been the Dos Santos II! Ever since you threw it into a pit beautifully when you were 'just doing adult gymnastics'. You OWN that skill and do it better than anyone I've ever seen. Fingers crossed we get to see it sometime on the floor, because it is phenom! Keep on slaying! Also...I heard him say it...a Rudi...I heard it!

I can see Chellsie doing a Moors, Dos Santos II, Dos Santos I, and Double Arabian + Stag and being the #2 floor worker behind Simone. Extreme difficulty but totally unique and her own.

On the beam I just loved Chellsie’s split and straddle leaps. Lovely, lovely form and steady. On bars, I loved the first swing on the low bar, I don’t even know what the move is called, where Chellsie prepares to swing up. The tumbling looks seriously impressive. Impressed!
