@MdoubleHB2 Your use of the word abuse really does such a disservice to all the people that are sexually, physically, and verbally abused everyday in this world. Don't agree with her, fine. Say that, but to say it's "abuse" is just false in the very definition of the word as well as what it means in the lives of so many.

A reason to be vegan that I don't hear people talking enough about is microbial threats. I guess I must add here - I'm a microbiologist. The way we keep animals nowadays - crowded and at a huge scale, genetically uniform, stressed and in poor conditions, often without adequate healthcare - this is a ticking pandemic timebomb. Covid19 was recently spreading in mink farm and serving as a disease reservoir. Bovine tuberculosis causes around 10 000 human deaths every year. Swine flu pandemic caused several hundred thousand deaths in the 2009 pandemic and together with bird flu is a constant threat from farms. Farms are also a huge source of drug resistance in infectious diseases. Most of the antibiotics we use are administered to farm animals. And the stupidest thing - in many countries farmers still use our precious antibiotics for things like growth promotion and disease prevention (as a substitute for good conditions and hygiene). A terrifying statistic that I like to mention to people - every year antimicrobial resistance kills (as a primary and contributing cause of death) several million people... and the numbers are predicted to just go up.

I really wish this was talked about more, I have no microbiology background at all, but it seems only the people in this field are concerned about this. Not even doctors are seemingly too concerned considering the over prescription of antibiotics to humans still continues.

I also made a broccoli cheese soup that called for sour cream and cheese. I used some vegan sour cream with some of the Bitchin' sauce, and it came out REALLY good. I don't like most vegan cheese, so I'm glad this works very nicely as an alternative for me.

I used to be vegan for several years but now that I'm unemployed I haven't been able to make ends meet eating the same vegan diet I used to eat since a lot of high protein vegan foods are too expensive, if I didn't eat a high protein diet I would still be 100% vegan. Atm I eat like a 90% plant-based diet, with a bit of tuna, eggs and low-fat dairy (I emphasize that it's low-fat dairy and not just dairy in general because the reason I eat dairy in the first place is because of protein, and when dairy has less fat in it it also has less calories so the protein to calorie ratio is higher as a result - and since the reason I eat non plant-based products is because of protein it would be hypocritical of me to eat low-protein animal-derived products. So I don't eat any fatty cheeses, or butter, or fried chicken, or ice cream, or burgers, or cakes, or anything like that). When people invite me out for dinner I'll always pick something vegan or if they ask me if I have any dietary restrictions I'll always say that I'm vegan. I hope that I can one day go back to eating a 100% plant-based diet once I have a full time job again.

@@carstenaltena I live in Sweden. Yeah meat is pretty expensive here as well, the only meat I eat is tuna, I eat that once or twice a week, and horse meat, which I eat a few times a year. But I still definitely eat more meat-substitutes than actual meat. I'm more so talking about eggs, and low-fat yoghurt, and cottage cheese - if you look at the cost of that it's significantly cheaper than meat and meat-substitutes. I do eat beans and lentils every now and then as well, but that's just because I like the taste, they don't have quite enough protein in them to regularly appear in my diet, they don't really stack up to meat-substitutes that are soy or wheat-protein based, or low-fat dairy and tuna. Take 100g of black beans, they have 102kcal and 7g of protein. Meanwhile my favorite soy-based chicken-substitute has 151kcal and 23g of protein. Low-fat cottage cheese has 79kcal and 13g of protein. Tuna has 71kcal and 17g of protein.

Sorry that you live in a place where plant based eating is so uncommon. I live in one of the most vegan-friendly places in the world and most of the people I hang around with are at least vegetarian anyway. Being vegan for ethical reasons is still relatively uncommon, but it is rare to get comments. That said..., and don't take my comment the wrong way..., but I would stare as well if I heard a reducetarian say that. Because, if you lived 200 years ago, would you have said something like that to the reduced percentage of slaves that you decided to keep exploiting?

@@upgradeplans777 Your problem is that you want everything right here, right now, without offering any ways to make it happen right here, right now. I live in a place where we largely depend on seasonal local produce, and when 6 months out of 12 is winter and you only get 6h of daylight, you can guess what our options for vegetarianism and veganism are. In my part of the world, vegetarianism and veganism with proper nutrition literally are a luxury for those who have three things: time to shop mindfully and cook at home, and the money to pay for both the time and energy spent, as well as money spent on the product itself. I get what you're saying and why you're saying it, but you're saying it from a massive ivory tower, and that is why you're met with hostility and refusal. People simply aren't able to make the instant change you demand of them, even if they're ideologically aligned with you, and want to go vegan. And to knock you down from your throne a bit... 200 years ago, my people were serfs. Serfdom is a form of slavery. So I don't know what I would've said, but I would've most likely been too busy worrying about surviving subsistence farming (which my family did until late 90s. Eastern Europe was a poor place then). Rapid and radical change was never driven by the poor and the peasants, even the French Revolution was financed and spearheaded by unhappy aristocracy exploiting the suffering of the poor, all its major leaders were nobility. So if you find yourself in a position to enact this rapid and radical change, make that change possible for those who cannot afford to make that change themselves. Reductarianism might not be enough for you, but you'll just have to deal with it, because you have the convenience of living in a vegan-friendly place, but most people do not, and you stand in front of two realities: the unattainable 'do it perfectly and do it now', and 'do what you can, and try to do more'.

And historically speaking we won’t abandon these industries just bc there’s an alternative that’s more ethical like it’s said in the video. Renewable energy technologies were heavily subsidized to the point where they’re extremely cheap now but we haven’t transitioned to them. Why? It’s almost like businesses are very risk adverse. Instead the goal is to prevent competition and innovation. The animal industry succeeded in having vegan products branded as discs and other unappetizing descriptions. Why would they not try anything in their power to prevent animal free products from jeopardizing their position? Wishful thinking might allow us to sleep at night it however has nothing to do with reality. We won’t get there trusting dairy and meat businesses to wake up and become ethical all of a sudden. We’ll only get there if we advocate for better animal rights protection mandating to put an end to this and if not at least heavily regulate and reduce it.

Seriously, I make my own "cheese sauce" for lasagna, tacos, pizza, etc. It's affordable, relatively quick to make, I guess it's healthier than most options, and it just tastes great (even for non vegans). I put like 3 tbsp of oil and a tsp (or two) of chopped garlic in a small cauldron until the garlic is fragrant and a little bit brown. While thats going on (or beforehand), i put a package of silken tofu, 1 tsp salt, approximatly 1/3 cup of water (could be beer instead) and 1 tbsp of tapioca starch (which add the gooey, stretchy feeling of melted cheese) in a blender and i blend them together. If I have nutritional yeast on hand I'll sometime add some. I then add the hot oil and garlic mix to the blender and blend again, then put everything back in the cauldron and heat it up for a few minutes while whisking quite often to monitor the texture. Once it boils, the tapioca starch will work it's magic, and when I feel like it's thick enough, i take it off the heat and pour it on whatever I want to cover in cheese. I've starded even bringing my own cheese sauce to events where every body else eats pizza or pasta with cow cheese. I can't tell how much money I've saved using this recipe!

The algorithm is such a mystery. You’ve never seen or heard of Jenny as a long term vegan yourself. Whereas I am a lifelong omnivore, who has never looked up vegan content, and yet, Jenny Mustard and Edyn Jacks. As well as Ellen Fisher were all heavily suggested to me by the YT algorithm in my early YT days. Edyn is no longer vegan on the advice of her medical team, but the way she made veganism relatable and the food she ate was actually appetizing- she’s the only one who made me consider veganism.

What multi-vitamin do you recommend? I try to only take select vitamins and minerals that I don't get quite enough of every day (according to Myfitnesspal), which is potassium, iron, B12, D3, and calcium. I'm always like 25% under my RDA for those! I stopped taking a multi because I felt like I didn't need the excess vitamins A, C, E and because most multis don't have minerals, only vitamins. My multi doesn't have hardly any minerals at all! I had no idea I wasn't meeting my RDA for iron or potassium until I started watching your videos and paying attention. Of course, I've never been anemic either, but if I'm consistently about 25% of my RDA short of iron, do I still need to take a small dose? I found a gummy with only 25% RDA so I had planned to take it with a vitamin C on the days I don't get enough iron.

I stopped being vegan after 10 years, and approximately 20 years since first going vegetarian. It just happened gradually, eggs first, then dairy then fish then meat (mostly chicken tbh, most red meat just doesn't appeal to me). I will be transparent and say that I've enjoyed it, but I am pregnant now and my body is rejecting meat. I've basically reverted to being vegetarian, with some fish here and there. I can't lie, this last year or so i have found it hard to ignore the guilt. But I think I'm going to slowly revert back, at least mostly. I'm not sure if I'll ever be vegan again, but I said I'd never eat meat again so who knows. Please be kind, everyone's different and has different needs and circumstances.

I love cheese and I will never stop eating it. I do try to source it from less horrific sources though, but thats not due to ethical concerns alone. Cheese needs to come from livestock that is healthy and not from overcrowded settings. The more overcrowded it is, the more chance of nasties, although the processes tends to kill of most serious problems. Local farms with a normal amount of free range livestock is preferable, for your own health and for ethical concerns. People who want to end all enslavement of other species at all costs, may not comprehend how nature works. A sudden change is never good. It takes a lot of time to chance nutition world wide and we need to slowly alter according to what science can do for us.

SO YEAH!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Personally, I believe our most sacred goal must now be to make absolutely sure that Veganism *is* attainable and feasable - not only for the people at all the "obvious and easy" places, such as Portland or San Francisco or Tel Aviv, all of which do already have *a HUGE* bunch of Vegan food variety to choose from, but also _and predominantly_ for the people at places such as ❤Babruysk❤, Velikiy Novgorod, sandomierz or Samarqand, where - and I can now speak from 100% personal experience - being *a Vegetarian* is an ultra-draining and constantly demanding full time job, while being Vegan does not seem to be at all possible!! Where there simply *isn't* any Tofu to be had anywhere, most Cafés hardly have _one_ Vegan milk (for a scandalous extra pay), dead bodies are being openly roasted on the street, and people do *still(!!)* believe, that Vegans and Vegetarians eat the dead bodies of murdered fish. We must somehow bring Veganism - both products *AND* awareness - to all of *these* places. It is very easy, to be Vegans in Re`hovoth or Vankuver, but we must make it possible and easy, also, for the people in Urgut and Gomel.

There are beans and stuff, but even they(!) would contain that horror or another, and there's no real _interest,_ it seems, in having any Vegan, Vegetarian, or Environmentally sustainable kind of groceries. You would think that people, when faced with the choice between two equivalent choices of foods with identical taste and texture, would indeed pick the less cruel option. But even that's too much to ask apparently. Look at the push against cultivated meat in the US. After Florida, three other states (Alabama, Arizona and Tennessee) are currently debating the approval of lab-grown meat. We're not even talking about replacing "real" meat entirely or forcing people to only eat cultivated meat. They are refusing lab-grown meat to even be produced and sold in some states. People seem to be willing to go to unbelievable lengths to protect their way of life despite overwhelming evidence that this way is immoral, unhealthy and destructive of the environment. It makes you wonder what hope there is for animals when people still reject veganism when offered what seems like a perfect cruelty-free alternative with no downsides to them...

She still wouldn’t eat them. She doesn’t agree with eating anything that’s fake and she says that we might as well just eat the real thing. I tried to explain to her that the whole point is that we get to eat some thing that’s similar, without harm being done to billions of lives and she basically said that she still doesn’t agree and that humans are meant to eat animals and we have no other choice. She’s also against any diet choices that aren’t for health reasons so to her environmental and ethical reasons aren’t a valid reason for changing a diet. She also basically told me that all the stuff about veganism in the environment was fake. I was so disheartened after that conversation, I wanted to cry.

If the latter, then definitely. You blew it. You're not vegan any more. But if it was non-intentional, then it wasn't your fault. More like someone holding an alcoholic down & forcing a drink into them. It's a pain. As soon as you know think you know every angle for them trying to stick some animals in you, you'll find another one you didn't think existed, e.g. a restaurant or takeaway will change their processes & start frying chicken in the deep fry oil, or a new chef will be sloppy & use the same grill as for meat. It sure does requires a similar vigillance as an AA member,, but it will toughen you up as a person.
