So Frazier is a spin off of this character

just watched the entire show end to end again... little older little wiser.... but does anyone else get the vibe that the core story is a dark and sad one. Typical of people hanging out a bar and then they go their own ways as if they were strangers again...

I think that’s why it’s one of the greatest sitcoms ever made. My favorite sitcoms are about a disparate group of eccentrics forced together by an outside force of luck and/or circumstance: Cheers, Community, The Office (USA) - I’ve never gotten into MASH, but that also fits the bill.

Early on, not so much. About halfway through the show start putting emphasis on the reality of the characters their actions and the consequences of. While I found it very engaging, apparently of the time of the shows airing audiences were not happy with the more dower tone, despite the comedy still being there.

Funny enough while the show originally meant Frasier's line about his ancestors to mean he came from money, considering what we know from the Frasier TV show it seems more like we are seeing the mask slip just a little bit only for his insecurities to get the better of him and add the "small family fortune" bit as a cover. Just goes to show a good writer can make retcons work without actually changing canon.
