HORI recently announced the HORI Split Pad Fit in Japan and shortly after announced the Western release named the Hori Split Pad Compact. In Japan there are 4 colours available and weirdly only 2 of those colours are available to us in the West but... Japan also received 2 exclusive Pokémon editions, Pikachu & Gengar. As a Gengar fan I jumped on a pre-order and imported them. They've now arrived so let's take a first look and unboxing of the Gengar HORI Split Pad Fit/Compact and compare them with the original Joy-Cons and the HORI Split Pad Pro!

@@128KB Yess BUT. I tested out the red ones last night and..found out what dead zone means. Was wondering why movement felt “slippery”. Going to try the gray and see if they feel any dif. Also my hands cramped a bit. Will keep testing. Sucks cuz I thought Gengar would for sure be my new main. Still gotta check em out though. Overall I’m weird I still like the JoyCon. Makes me appreciate the ingenuity. The shirt sticks have more than just a couple purposes. Also keeps you from touching them when pressing the B button. Which also seems to be a symptom with the Hori Compact. 👀 I think the dead zone though means you won’t have drift.
I just pre-ordered the gengar version of these! They will be released on the 4th of November for anyone wondering. Great review man, it helped to decide on buying them. Especially because I play monster hunter and NieR: automata on portable mode!

Buying the Split Pad Compact was one definitely a good buy! It is super comfortable and actually makes me wanna play in handheld mode! Just sucks they can't have gyro and vibration...
nintendo should just hire hori to make their joysticks

@@tomdax7498 I feel like binbok have a huge quality control issue since I had to get 3 different orders from them since the first had a faulty dpad and the second ones bumpers didn't work. when I got the third everything worked well, it's still one of my favorite switch controllers, I just think they need to fix their QC
They look so good I want to buy them! Glad you're back from illness too!

@@128KB I have a quick question regarding the extra heft to these split pad compacts by the way! Do you know if they'll fit into a regular Switch case when attached? I have an Orzly case, and it'd be incredible if these controllers will fit into the case when attached to the Switch, but no idea on whether that's possible or not!

Right on, bro! Congrats!! I just got the Pikachu version and the case! Pikachu is my fav! The case is pretty nice too and will fit both your switch with these on and maybe a couple more items and then if you just want reg joycons, there’s a little padded pouch with a strap for it in there! Fits OLED only or OLED with fit Joycons. I only know this through pictures. Japan gets all the cool stuff? Shipped to America and worth it! Both ordered from Amazon JP.

I want to buy these ones but I wonder if this doesn support gyro so that means when i play Zelda i cant take advantage while aiming and moving arround withoyt using analog stick ?
The irony that I literally ordered these (Gengar Edition) and the carrying case last night. Amazon Japan still had two in stock a few hours ago -> FYI for anyone looking.

Oh weird! Last time I looked a week or so ago they were sold out! I'm jealous of the case, I should have just ordered it but was quite expensive to import to the UK!

@@128KB it might be worth checking every few days, a couple day ago Amazon JP shows that only 1 gengar edition left with a £60 delivery fee, but after a few days there’s more option and cheaper delivery fee as well. I imagine it’s the same for the pouch as well
Im so glad someone has done the review...tonight my joycon pros have just snapped (after about 2 years of constant playing) these look so nice to use

i really wish the split pads could connect together as a normal controller. But not having batteries/rumble/nfc would make it subpar to a normal pro controller.

So nice! 👌🏼 it’s kind of annoying, here in the states I ordered the all red ones because I like those better than the alternative white with yellow… But Amazon says it’s a pre-order and they’re not shipping until December. Oh well, I’ll still look forward to getting them I guess lol. These are awesome though.

I saw a pair of Red and White at Walmart the other day.
Can you dock the Switch Oled with the new split pads? I have the Pro and hate to remove them every time i want to dock my switch

In Japan there's a case for it but I've not tried it. No, you need to press the power button.
Is there any way I can have a case on my switch to protect the back while using these? Was thinking of craft knifing a silicone one, would it work?

The analog is great, just like pro controller but the grip is not good and it is useless when detached from the switch.

They will yeah but since they don't have rumble/gyro/NFC they're only using battery for button inputs, which is going to be next to nothing.

Not useless but not ideal by any means. Lack of Gyro/Rumble is the only killer for me. They provide perfect grip for my medium sized hands!
