Checking out Chile: Traveling to Santiago, Viña del Mar & Valparaiso
Travel along as we check out Chile. We began our trip by visiting Santiago, the capital of Chile. We enjoyed the stunning Cerro San Cristobal, with panoramic views of the city. We then explored the beautiful parks and plazas of Santiago, including Plaza de Armas, where we admired the historical buildings. Finally, we visited the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, learning the humbling history of human rights violations under Pinochet and the country's inspiring move to democracy.
After a few days in Santiago, we took a road trip to the coast to visit the neighboring cities of Viña Del Mar and Valparaiso. Our first stop was Viña Del Mar, a popular beach town known for its beautiful ocean views and vibrant nightlife. We spent our time enjoying the beach and playing futbol, while also sampling a few Pisco Sours.
Next, we traveled to the colorful city of Valparaiso, famous for its street art and historic architecture. We spent the day wandering the steep, narrow streets and admiring the beautiful graffiti on the walls of the buildings. Our climb up the city's many stairs was rewarded with delicious empanadas and an afternoon ice cream.

Thank you, Andres. It was an honor to get to visit Chile and learn more about it. I look forward to visiting again one day my friend. Thank you for watching.
Saludos

I cannot find a single source online that argues that Pisco is Chilean instead of Peruvian, my friend. Here from the Pisco People online: "In 1553, to meet the growing demand for wine in the new country, the Marquis Francisco de Caravantes imported grapes from the Spanish Canary Islands. By 1563 vineyards were planted in the sunny lands of arid city of Ica in the south of Peru, which became the cradle of pisco in Peru."

@@atravelingperspectiven't forget that at that time, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia and Ecuador, were all belonging to the Viceroyalty of Peru, which was from Spain, and the production of brandy began Pisco, from where it was exported to Europe and other regions of South America, especially to the rich silver deposit of Potosí, and since the production in Ica-Pisco was not enough, the Spaniards sought to produce in other areas of the viceroyalty and found suitable territories, And they found them in Tarija (Bolivia) and Elqui (Chile), from where said production was called the same "aguardiente de Pisco" or simply "pisco", over time, already in the Republic, Bolivia renamed your product like "singani", but in Chile it continued to be called "aguardiente" (schnapps) ó simply "pisco". Thus, in 1882 in Chile the first industrial patent was delivered to a pisco factory in the world, "Pisco G" From José María Goyeneche in the city of Copiapó, and in 1931, by means of a supreme decree, the name of the town of La Unión, in the Elqui Valley, was changed to Pisco Elqui in order to continue exporting the product to the United States that required Denomination of origin, this being the first in America and the second in the world after Cognac in France! Peru only gave its pisco a designation of origin in 1990! Curiously, the largest export of Peruvian pisco is made to Chile, which is the country that consumes the most pisco in the world, and its consumption is so great that the production typical of Chile is not enough. As reference, "The per capita consumption in Peru is 200 cubic centimeters (7.24 US fl oz) per year compared to 2.2 liters (74.4 US fl Oz) per capita in Chile" (source "¿Cuál pisco se vende más en el extranjero, el peruano ó el chileno? BBC Mundo) The European Union recognized Peru's "indication of origin" for pisco, but denied it the exclusivity of "denomination of origin", which is also recognized for Chile, for which reason both countries they can sell their product under the same name, "pisco". Since the 1990s, the Chilean pisco industry wanted to add value to the pisco and began to store it in American or french oak barrels to assimilate it with other distillates such as Cognac, rum or whisky but in the face of the onslaught of Peruvian pisco, always crystalline, the Chilean industry has once again produced high-quality transparent (unaged) pisco and has once again won international competitions including the most prestigious in the world like the one in Brussels! 🧐 🥃
