CHECKING MUD CRAB POTS | Giant Mud Crabs Australia

In this episode I set crab traps / pots for Giant Mud Crabs in Northern Australia. I use bait that mud crabs can't resist! A quick fish before returning to pull the pots. With the pots full of Big Muddies I tie a few up for a feed! Hope you enjoy watching! #returnoutdoors

Great video! The muddies seem to be in plentiful supply. Maybe that is because people like you are following the rules and releasing females and undersize crabs, only taking enough for a feed. Proof sustainability works, you can always get a few crabs and be sure there will be still a few around the next time you go out. Look forward to seeing what you get up to in your next adventure.

I have caught a few of the orange colored crab too. They seem to have smaller sharper claws ( like jennys) than our traditional muddies..I've been told by a pro that they are invaders from PNG.🤔

If they are "invaders", are they legal to take on top of the maximum? Or do you have to dump them, not return them into the waterways?

Do you have to leave them in some clean water before cooking them to get the mud out of them like it is done with crayfish from muddy waters? Or is the water brown-looking because of the mangroves? Oh and definitely thanks for posting these they are so relaxing to watch.

Basic research on your behalf would show Giant mud crab is a common name for Scylla serrata - a species of mud crab. This is NOT click bait.
