    I’m in middle school, so I obviously need smaller on the top part where it’s just the one color you keep going out until it fits around your head and then the rest the way you just keep doing that and eventually it’ll fit once it’s done

    Heyyy each row in the first section is at a steady increase of 8. So at rnd 10 it’s at 80 stitches but if you continue the pattern like rnd 11 is (9 hdc, inc) you’ll be left with 88 stitches and if you were to start the pattern there you just add an extra stitch to the alternating colours. So example if you want 11 alternating colours, each colour before a switch would only have 8 stitches. And if you increase to example rnd 12 which would be (10hdc 1inc) you’d be left with 8 stitches before alternating colours (total number of stitches would be 96)and you would have 12 alternating colours. If you want less squares then you’ll have to divide your stitches by a lower number but it has to equal an even number example. If you have 96 stitches you can divide it by 6 and then that’ll give you 6 alternating colours (squares) and in each will have 16 stitches)

    Hi. I’m doing pretty good with this. However i did increase for a larger size (i went to 11 instead of 8 like you) to accommodate braids/dreadlocks…where or what sort of adjustment do i do. I fell short by two at the second round of checkers though. I slipped stitched anyway and finished the 5sts..but i don’t know if that was the right move.

    Just leaving this comment here in case someone finds it helpful. I just made the mistake they described above and it was because I was accidentally picking up one extra stitch when changing color so I ended with 85 stitches instead of 80 and the last 5 stitches ended up being color 1 instead of two, so the starting color and the ending color ended up not alternating, but meeting as they meant to say. Had to redo the row again and made sure to not accidentally increase!

  • @alecskokosnusswasser2442

    @alecskokosnusswasser2442

    3 ай бұрын

    Hey, if you're still struggling with this I hope this will help: check your tension. If there's a change in tension throughout the rounds it might be the reason for getting smaller. It can also depend on the yarn and hook size that you're using. You can of course just do more half double crochets, I am also working on the hat and did more but you would have to adjust the following pattern to it, as they already mentioned in the video. If you don't know how, I could try explaining it to you if you want/need uwuw

    Can anyone help me, this always happens to me. Whenever I do a checkered pattern, the other colour yarn that we are supposed to carry forward always shows and if you use contrasting colours, it is a trouble. What do I do?

    Instead of carrying it in the stitch, you can also leave it at the back of the work.
