Synopsis:
Why does such a little thing cost so much to fix!? In order to maximize profits, most electrical companies charge a flat rate for their first hour of work. Sadly, a doorbell repair rarely takes that long, but you’re charged for the full time! If you’re looking to save a few bucks, here’s the main thing to check before you pick up the phone.

You are in the north. In the south, they are often in the attic since there are so few basements.

Or it's time for a modern wireless upgrade, that includes notifications! I say that, because I've dealt with old doorbells and it's a miracle they were still working. I wouldn't trust the wire after so long, or the cobbled wire repairs you don't know about until the lathe and plaster comes down.

I've never seen any doorbell system problems caused by old bell wire, just saying. Also, the wired video doorbells are always better than the battery-operated ones...

Had a nice guy who lived in baddest part of the hood. Told me my truck will never be broken into because they could not get people to work in that area but he would call the neighbor where I parked my van to keep an eye on it. Anyway he had 3 rental houses on that block. He called me because one house the door buzzer was not working. When I opened it up a bunch of roaches came out. Told him that it needed to be replaced. No way did I want to put my hands on that. Same house renter complained there was something wrong with the bathroom light. Had a 60 watt light bulb but all 4 walls & ceiling were painted with flat black paint. Told him to paint the ceiling with glossy white paint and bathroom would be brighter.

@@mcarroll598 Had call backs on cheap door bells that customers supplied and last house that I ran telephone wires to owner bad mouthed me for not running the correct wire. I asked him & his wife several times how many phone #'s that were intending to have told me one. Each had their own business and ended up with 4 phone lines. Two were for fax machines.

@@supercooldude824 I had more then enough work that I could turn down door bells, running telephone lines , burglar & fire alarms . Last 35 years did nothing but commercial work that always paid more, did not have to take my work hours off or use booties, worry about making a little amount of dust etc.

I actually un-installed a Ring, but the old doorbell won't work now. Same concept, or something different?

Sounds feasible. According to ADT, traditional doorbells generally require a 10-24V transformer whereas a video doorbell requires 16-30V: www.adt.com/resources/doorbell-camera-wiring. Ultimately you should consult the manufacturer's specs for your new/old doorbell and the transformer. If that still doesn't fix things, we'd be happy to look at it with you over a zoom call/Facetime: electric-pro-academy.square.site/

Who still has doorbells? This is for anyone that isn’t an electrician who has doorbell issues. Don’t waste your money calling one of us. Put that money towards a wireless camera doorbell or just a camera. Most likely you’ll know someone is coming over. If you get an unsuspected visitor they can knock.

My niece has a wireless doorbell/camera living on a busy street so camera is always sending alarms. She has to remove the camera/doorbell push button every week to charge battery. Pain in you know where.
