My memory of the Kodak yellow is their rolls of film in particular.

I love that the design is like a kodak film roll opened. Clever and fun. I love the instant camera + printer feature. No need to decide if you want to get something just for instant photos and then having to get a different one for small on the go printer.

Fun! I like how it’s basically a portable photo printer too. Definitely picking this up to replace my HP Sprocket

This seems like such a thoughtful competitor to the Instax Mini & Polaroid Go offerings. I get that the white border is just an iconic staple from when Polaroid first came onto the scene, but I'm actually such a big fan of these lil 2x3" prints that are exactly scaled down 4x6" photos you'd get developed at Walmart in a fresh paper sleeve. This is actually such a steal considering that printing on Instax is separated into its own product line or only integrated into their higher-end models. I do worry about the pricing/availability of Kodak film and if it'll be able to sustain its own ecosystem when Instax film has been the de facto standard for consumer photo printing. Oh and the yellow and black colour scheme is definitely my favourite too, Lok!

Love the design! Note that most Instax cameras use an actual analog lens to photo mechanism, so you get analog character in those Instax pictures. But being a digital camera + printer, this Kodak can be a nice package, though the prints might be of a lower quality (printing resolution) than dedicated photo printers like the Canon Selphy 1300/1500

Hey Lok, what kind of AA batteries do you use for gear that is powered by such and what would you recommend? Thanks!

I’ve been using eneloop for over 10 years, since it was introduced by Sanyo and later acquired by Panasonic. I had some of the oldest ones that had worked for 10 years. I’ve read some pretty serious tests online, eneloop almost always come on top. I have some IKEA rechargeable batteries too, some say they are in fact eneloop just with IKEA logo on them, and perform very similar. One thing is when you get a charger for them, get a “smart” charger, or you can almost can always tell if it could charge an AA battery within 3 hours. These “smart” charger actually detects how much charge left in each battery, and stop when each battery is full. Try not to get those takes over 10 hours to charge, or even doesn’t make it clear on the package that how long it takes to charge. These charger are the “dump” type which it only use an internal timer to charge a battery for set amount of time (usually 12 hours), even if you put a 90% full battery to it. It’s not good for the battery, and come on 12 hours! Who has time for that!

Definitely! It can charge any other brands AA rechargeable batteries. You're gonna love it. I've been using eneloop and IKEA AA and AAA batteries in everything I own, microphones, remote controls, recently radiator smart vales too. Haven't bought a single use AA/AAA batteries for over a decade. There are devices that can't use rechargeable batteries because they have lower voltage (ok now I remember my smoke detector is very specified about that and I can't use rechargeable), but they are rare

What's the cost of the film though? One of the tough barriers to entry of Fuji Instax (as a direct competitor) is that essentially every shot is $2. It is not cheap. OR, is this actually a "mini printer"? Then the question would become how expensive is the ink cartridges, paper, and how many shots roughly can be printed? Might get better scaling out of this if it's a printer.

Zink paper that this thing uses is 16usd on bhphoto for 40 sheets, so significantly cheaper. Although I still will prefer Instax, just because it's an actual film I can shoot in a 4x5 camera (instax wide, ~1USD/shot)... this can still be plenty fun.

@@spaqin I personally would love to shoot Polaroid 4x5 in 2023, but it's just so cost prohibitive. Impossible Project film definitely feels like a luxury art project tool, rather than something that can be used daily. The real advantage of this Kodak camera might simply be being able to take phone pictures and printing them out.

There are other portable printers that, just print prints. This Kodak Smile and Fujifilm Instax are more "lifestyle" product I think? I know someone's kids love Instax and decorate their room with prints.
