Per popular demand, here's a tour of my "new" work truck, a 2001 Dodge Ram ST. It used to belong to my late father in law. My wife and I decided to hold onto it and put it to good use. In this video, I'll first take care of some maintenance items and show just how clean this truck is overall! I'll also give a full tour, showing all the ins and outs, while taking it on a thorough test drive. I love basic pickups! This thing is so practical!

Chrysler column shifts of this era were all really smooth that I remember. My parents had a 98 caravan and it was silky smooth to shift and I remember watching one of Kyle's reviews a long time ago on the AWD town and country and he also commented on the smoothness of the shifter.

The 90's/00's Chrysler column shifters were the best. GM vehicles always had super notchy ones (except some Cadillac and Buick sedans) while Ford had really loose ones. Sad you can't really get them anymore except in a fleet vehicle, which they still make because they're better.

That was my favorite generation Dodge Ram. Chrysler really knocked it out of the park in 1994 when they designed and released that body style. I still remember that generation Dodge Ram being famous in Twister and Walker, Texas Ranger. The 1990s was a fun decade to grow up in.

Glad you did a video on this. These are my favorite generation. I remember seeing them new on the lot. Instant like. I've owned a few 2nd gen diesel trucks but I've always wanted the work model or an ST V6 Reg cab long box. Just a good work truck. I have a 2017 Tradesman 1500 currently I bought new. Probably the best quality Ram trucks have had. However something about that older generation I love. Take care Kyle!

I agree Dodge shifters are incredibly smooth to shift. My Grandpa has a late 90s Dodge truck similar to this he uses as a "field beater" for his farm which I've used for some stuff, and it's so smooth. Wheras driving his 1989 GMC, the shifter is like clunk clunk clunk and a little harder to shift, but with the Dodge you don't have that.

This singlehandedly makes me glad I bought my 98 to restore, I love that truck to death. Shocks are the most worthwhile repair one can do for a vehicle, I just put a set on my 2000 Explorer after ONLY 308K miles, and man what a difference. I'd put them off because of rust but PB is your friend.

Reminds me of my 98 I had. But it was the 4wd version with the 318 v8 with the 5 speed manual. Really loved that truck but got into financial problems an had to sell it. 😔.. Hope to find another one someday that isn't beat an rusted out.

Nice Ol' Truck. I hope you'll get the chance to do some additional older vehicles.

Get the transmission upgrade kit with new solenoids and overdrive spring.. easy to do with trans in, gives you the opportunity to tighten the bands. Bet your legs overdrive spring is broken. I’ll try and post link...

I would do a drain and refill on the transmission. That should be fine, but a flush yes I agree don’t do that because that pushes any friction material shavings into the small passages which ultimately leads to transmission failure. I believe those have transmission filters as well which you should also change as well

My Dad has a 1999 5.2L V8 and she has well over 200K miles on her. She still runs great and as you said there always seems to be something wrong with her.

Sounds to me like she needs: Better air intake New spark plugs (and check for black residue on old ones) Transmission flush New headlights And since you replaced the shocks, it means that it "rode on the springs" for a really long time, so check out the rest of the suspension components and bearings/seals.

Only three of those need to be done; the headlights can be cleaned with some Armor All headlight restoring agent.
