Very well done. Not like another video I just watched by a so called mechanic that just changed the part without diagnosing the problem or telling how to verify it afterwards. When I asked how he diagnosed the problem he replied the scanner told him which part to replace. I knew better. Scanners don't work that way. They merely point you in the rights direction for you to further diagnoses the part. Always enjoyed 1A Auto's videos. Keep up the good work!

Thanks. Only suggestion would be to comment on just how these connections are fastened. Hoses in this case apparently have just barbs holding them(?), and electrical; has a tab to press to take it out? RichE San Diego, CA

I had the exact same code on my 2007 chevy silverado classic style with a 4.8 engine the code reader at autozone suggested to change the fuel tank pressure sensor so I did which is a pain in the rear to pull off, I ended up breaking it trying from underneath I had to remove the bed to remove the remaining part and installing the new one it's much easier that way My problem continue I replaced the purge valve and solved the problem which was the second suggestion The truck wouldn't want to start after fueling When cold in the mornings I had trouble starting it it would cough and stall

2008 Saturn Outlook - had the p0496 code, changed evap canister, 2 weeks later code came back. Also, when i open gas tank with car running, the engine immediately starts idling rough. any ideas?

I have a 07’ Suburban in that is giving me an evap leak code. I just recently replaced the charcoal canister and the vent solenoid. After replacement, I decided to go ahead and change the purge solenoid and found charcoal in the lines that lead to the purge valve and the valve itself. After replacing it, I now get a purge high flow code (assuming the existing charcoal in the lines I can’t get out are clogging the purge valve) I assume my next step would be to drop the tank and clear the remaining of the lines.

I have a 2010 Cadillac STS I replaced the purge valves and I am still getting a P0496 code I also replaced the gas cap still have the code any help would be appreciated. Can’t seem to get this car through inspection because of this problem

I found the leaks after a full diagnostics and Had it fixed. I changed my purge valve, charcoal canister OEM and a EVAP vacuum hose by the canister. my light turned back on for high purge flow (P0496). how do I get rid of that code. The gas cap looks good. No tears or anything. Idk what to do at this point. I only use 93 premium gas. Please I really need help 🙏🏼🙏🏼 I have benz c350 2010 70k miles.

Hi , I have 2018 Chevy trevierse code p0496 , I just changed the purge valve and the code won’t get deleted it’s says permanent . Note 1 : I tested the old one it was stuck open and I tested the new one and it’s functional. Note 2 : there is no gas cap in my car model .

Will this cause the catalyst monitors to not be ready at smog check ?

Replaced the valve and engine light is back on. Is it the cannisters?

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 crew cab with two EVAP system codes like p0442 and p0449 and i don't what it for.

So I have a 2019 GMC Acadia SLT.. and the purge valve was not closed completely and letting air through so I replaced it but the engine light is still coming on

Just how many sensors does this vehicle have? Been told 2, today I was told there are 4 sensors related to this P0496 code... I had to replace fuse, nbd, to be able to get code off vehicle...who knew this vehicle has not 1 BUT 3 fuse boxes.... Need vehicle fixed, but I do not want to hosed by a main garage chain. TIA.....

What if it's stuck closed the car would have a issue fueling and/or issues starting after fuel up

MAJOR QUESTION..... IF I understand what this evap system setup...COULD this cause an engine fire if there was a mistake, it was repaired in a Jeep....different vehicle, not mine.... I'm being told no....🤔🤔🤔 Having it done at the place I bought my car from.....btw...

Very informative video. Could I have an evap condition if whenever I get gas, the gas pump/nozzle clicks or turns off all the time? I have to click it back on several times, which can get pretty annoying to say the least.

Sounds like your vent valve is stuck closed.

Is it necessary to clear the code (I can with the scanner) but should the check engine light come off after driving it a bit?

So to test the part, when the car is running. If it's not sucking air then it needs to be replaced?

If the part is sucking air and it’s been disconnected that indicates it’s not working and you need to replace it since the part is disconnected it should block any air from going in

What if it's a no cap such as modern Fords?

2013 Cadillac srx exhaust issue(flex pipe)....sounded like a helicopter, then....p0496 code.. . Being told 2 separate issues, coinkident that code came 2 weeks after exhaust issue. Want 2 fix code issues first as vehicle has a vaccum issue...hwy driving is out as idiot lite blinked for about a mile....steady since, doing side roads... $600 for exhaust, $200 for p0496 fix. What do I do....owe more than vehicle is worth....

Replaced Both PCV valves, purge valve and gas cap but code P0496 will still come on. Can anyone help???

I found the problem with cadillacs- too many sensors and engineers with no common sense

How do you reset the code? I forgot to ask?

You could just disconnect the battery for a period of time then reconnect it then drive it and see if that was the problem

Would be the reason it will shut off while driving or drive it for a while turn it off and it won't start until u let it sit for a bit

Good video, but the gas cap does not need to be checked for this code or any other EVAP system DTC specially P0442, P0445 before the system is tested for leaks with a smoke machine because if a loose or an intermittent gas cap seal that's not sealing correctly due to a bad seal or rusted fill neck tube to gas cap sealing area are the sources of the leak the smoke test or leak test will not find any leaks in the system and the next time the gas cap seal fails the code will rest one more time.

Is it the same as a P0444 code?
