Jim (the boy with no ribcage) is the true villain of this short. He encourages Johnny to blow off his homework and then stabs him in the back during the closed student council meeting.

Since this was made in 1952, Johnny and Mary probably graduated from high school in either the late 50's or the early 60's. Did they learn their lesson from cheating, or did it continue with them throughout their lives? Did they ever go one to college? Did they ever cheat on an exam there? Was Johnny drafted and later sent to Vietnam? Did he cheat on his military entrance exam? Or did they go on to lead normal productive lives? They should have done a follow-up film to this.

So let me get this straight...he was doing all these extra activities like they were expected of him, so he didn't study and in a panic cheated on a math test, yet no one noticed he was freaking out over the test, and all of his friends treat him like he just committed a murder, and decide all the good things he did before the test suddenly don't matter and now pretty much want nothing to do with him because he made a stupid decision...I mean jesus when did cheating on a math test suddenly become equal to high treason, give him detention and call it a day there's no need to kick him off the Student Council or anything

See this is one of the many reasons why pre baby boomers and baby boomers themselves are the worst generations. Shorts like these although humorous with the riffing this alone made me realise how toxic psas were. I mean God forbid I cheated on a test just to scramble for a B so all my extra work can pay off...my parents would grill me like a whopper "yeah that was a pun to a riff* still I think in the 40s 50s and 60s everyone just couldn't understand the teenage mind.

I know I'm super late to this comment but I think its more a look on his continued cheating, not the fact he did it only once. As the short says, he depended on her more and more until he got caught one day. Its overplayed to frig cus ya no one is gonna really care THAT much but if I found out someone i knew cheated almost a full year of there time in a grade it would be a hard oof from me but thats about it. But if someone found out you were cheating for like 2/3 the whole semester then thats a pretty big deal. If this was one time then ya what they did was waaaaay to extreme but its implied he continued for quite a while. How long though we will never know.
