CHEAPEST Wizard Skating Setup? Oxelo MF500 + Rockin’ 490 frame

Спорт

Not even a 100 euros or barely 149 US dollars: that’s how cheap the ‪@oxelo‬ MF500 freeskate is. But still, you can swap the stock frame for something better, like a rockered frame. The Rockin’ 490 for example.

    *Big thanks!* 🤘 This video was shot with the Insta360 One X2. It's a 360 cam with superb stabilisation. As most 360 cams do, it automatically deletes the selfiestick from the image. (Something to do with the invisible zone between the two lenses on the camera.) In fact, I'm planning on dedicating a separate channel to shooting action videos. But I've still got to edit dozens of regular skating vids first. 🙂

    Oh, cool! 🤘 And thank you for the nice words. 🙂 I've been skating for three years now. I bought my first pair of the MF500 when I was skating for about five months. That was the skate that opened up urban skating for me. The best way to progress is to skate _every_ single day - skating to the grocery store is my daily routine. That's how you build up confidence. The trick is to improve your skills one small step at a time. Incremental growth really works when you go skating a lot.

    I loved putting my first oxelo mf500 boot onto my light Flying Eagle Supersonic 110 frame for some effortless "flying" around. 😁 Your vid here makes me consider buying a second pair and couple its boots with them Rockin' Mix4 frames that I've got here. Have you noticed any issues with frame allignement? The Oxelos have a little bit of a rear bias in my experience, but not too much.

  • @TheRollingRaptor

    @TheRollingRaptor

    Жыл бұрын

    Well, erm, I honestly haven't noticed that - and that's probably because my ability to feel such things is pretty crude. Wouldn't that rear bias also depend on the size of the boots? If I'm informed correctly, all skate designs are compromises so every frame fits on every shell size. It's never gonna be exactly perfect, but mostly close enough. In any case, the wheelbase of a 4x90 is too long for me to notice any bias. 😀

    How does it compare to the fr1 and the frx? Debating if the upcharge is worth it or not

  • @TheRollingRaptor

    @TheRollingRaptor

    The biggest difference, in my view, is the liner. I know quite a few people who've got no complaints about the Oxelo liner. Some even claim it's far more comfortable to their feet than Powerslide's fitness skates. But those people haven't tried the FR1, I guess. You can't lace the Oxelo liner up to the top, which is a pity. I like to have my liners tight around my lower leg for more control. The liner's material isn't as durable as the FR liner. After a year of _very_ intense skating, the liner of my first pair of MF500s was so squashed, it almost became dangerous to skate. My feet were too loose inside the boot, jeopardising the responsiveness and stability of the setup. But I still use that skate, with an FR liner and the FR 325 frame, and I love it: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k4uJ2riOYN2akaw.html (The liner of my MF900 is still holding up, by the way.) Strange thing is: an Oxelo MF500 with an FR liner is even more comfortable than the FR1 with the FR liner. (For me, the FR1's cuff is a bit too narrow, so I'm riding it with the Seba CJ Prime's liner.) The laces aren't as good as the FR's. And as you see in this video, I swapped the original 4x80 frame for the Rockin' 490. Good thing is: the mounting system is strong enough to mount even big wheel frame, like a 3x125. If you buy the MF500 and put an FR1 liner in it, you've still only paid half of what the basic FR1 model costs, while you've got a setup that's as comfortable and probably even more comfortable. My buckles still hold up and even if one breaks down (as happened with my MF900), you can replace it with an FR buckle. (Bladeville has a lot of FR spare parts.) My advice is to take a long-term view and compare the MF500 to a boot-only FR skate. The basic Oxelo skate is very cheap and for that, you get a sturdy and comfortable boot that you can improve upon. If you want to mount a rockered frame like some of Rockin's offerings, an Endless frame or just a big wheel FR frame, that's all perfectly doable. You can change the liner as well when the original's worn down. I've no experience with the FRX, so I can't really say anything about that. But I'd rather advise beginning inline skaters to buy the MF500 as their first skate and then, if they like skating and want to try something else, buy an FR1 (or FR3, for that matter). Hope explanation helps a bit? My next video will be about the MF500, so stay tuned. 😉

    Thus far, I haven’t encountered any issues with that adapter. I’ve been skating the Rockin’ MIX5 with the MF500 last weekend and jumped some pretty huge gaps, did several stair rides and swivelled to and fro, but everything felt very solid, as if there wasn’t any adapter in the first place. Nope, not the cheapest, before even shipping, those rockin frames are over 225.00 where 4x90s in both NN and Endless are straight up 200.00 each (with free shipping). I tell everyone that I talk to if they appear interested in frames like these, just save a bit longer and get a legitimate wizard frame/complete, they'll be happier in the long run. I'm talking from experience, as much as I loved my FR1s with Endless 100/110s, nothing beats wizard frames (and a seba boot). Just save a little longer.

  • @TheRollingRaptor

    @TheRollingRaptor

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for your comment! 🤘 First of all: this video's actually more about the boot than the frame. 😉 You _can_ indeed also put an NN Ninja or Endless 90 under the MF500, but that doesn't really matter all that much. Also: in Europe, the pricing seems to be different. The Rockin' 490 costs 219 euros if you order from their website, while the Endless 90 costs 225 euros (or more) in most skateshops, And most shops appear to be out of stock... The NN Ninja indeed costs 200 euros in two skateshops, but I expect they'll be sold out soon. Yes, you can directly order from both companies' websites, but then you've got to pay customs when you're living in Europe. That amounts to about a 100 euros. Which I've paid twice for two Ronin frames. Another important point is that the Rockin' 490 is *actually a UFS frame,* whereas the (original) Endless 90 and NN Ninja are strictly limited to 165mm. Thanks to the adapter, you can mount the 490 under a 165mm boot, but if you want to, you can easily upgrade to a UFS Seba boot. And _then_ you're getting way closer to a real Wizard setup, with the very same frame. Since I've also got the Wizard NR90, I can say: riding the Rockin' 490 feels just as great. Since the NR90 isn't easily available, certainly not in Europe, and costs a lot more, I can perfectly understand people go for the Rockin' 490. It isn't as shiny as the Raw Silver Wizard frames, but that gold finish is equally nice and both frames are just great fun. Which is in the end what counts, doesn't it? 🙂
