I use strong magnets on opposite side of the top to apply pressure over night.

I have owned a SL320 for 9 years, it came with a small hole in the outside layer of the multi layered soft top that has not gotten worse since I have owned it, but as it is the only bad spot on the whole vehicle I am thinking of repairing it, despite the fact it doesn't leak. If I do it I will try from the inside of the outer layer from outside the car, (if that makes sense) and blend in the fabric edge of the soft top to the glue. I think the damage was originally caused by the fabric catching on the frame on retraction in the past, but I had the top off to have new plastic windows sewn in when I bought it and the shop must have realigned the frame to stop the catching. Thanks for starting me to think about this and hope your repairs stand the test of time. In my experience the glue that marked the fabric will wear off with the weather.

Nice one. I was debating the push bike puncture repair tyre kits. The vinyl just goes over time might get a mohair one when it goes for good

If you had put sellotape on the outside, you could have applied black Stormsure convertible repair glue from the inside. You wouldn't have had to stick the material patch on the outside then. Almost an invisible repair that way.

helpful vid , did the patch hold up when you put the roof up and down . i have hole in the same place and its right on a crease when the roof is down.

Thanks. Yes, same here, the hole was right on a fold as the roof goes down. It started to lift a bit in one corner so I added some more glue and made sure it was completely dry before lowering the roof again. So far it's held up well, I've probably lowered and raised it 20 times since and no sign of lifting.

What if you tar to cover the hole and use it as an adhesive, do exactly what do you did when it dries, and then paint the top using fabric spray paint? Is that a good idea?

I guess you could try that. Not sure about spray painting the fabric though, colour match might be hard.

With a hole that small you might be able to put some Caulking over it, colour it dark grey by mixing it with some charcoal powder or paint.

+NotMorganFreeman I fitted a hardtop so I haven’t checked the condition of the soft top in ages. I’m guessing that as it’s vinyl and wasn’t in very good shape, I’ll probably need a new soft top now.
