Cheapest NEW Boats for 2023

Ойын-сауық

Looking at the cheapest new boats you can buy in 2023. If you're shopping for a boat and you want a brand new cheap boat I look at the two cheapest boats that are available in the US in 2023. The cheapest brand new jon boats these days are small plastic boats. The Bass Pro Shops Pond Prowler 8 Fishing Boat is the cheapest new boat that I found - but it is only a one person boat for ponds. I go over some of the features and pros and cons of this small boat. The second cheapest boat is a Sun Dolphin American 12 ft. jon boat and I take a look at that boat in person to review this 2 person 12 foot jon boat features. Both of these are very little boats.
Should you buy a used boat instead? If you are looking for a very cheap and small boat you might also consider a used boat because you can get more boat for your money when buying a used a boat. In this video I also discuss some of my experiences with shopping for and buying used boats.

I do shrink wrapping and we use a pond prowler for wrapping boats that are still in the water. Picked it up for 50 bucks at a yard sale. It’s super stable letting us stand up and work without much worry.

I must say the 12ft Sun Dolphin is very nice and perfect for solo or beginners boat. I have one of the exact ones you showed and I put a Erin Rude 6hp 2 cycle and a 55 minkota trolling motor on the front. I clocked myself at 14mph. Down side is will not plane and like mentioned in video it only has the rear compartment drain plug. So if rains you must get to shore fast by unless you have on board hand bilge pump there is no other way to get water out. Speaking from experience. Does fit in back of my truck with tailgate down. It is very stable on water. Way better than a kayak. Also the seats are very low. I sit on a milk crate with small rails under it and slides between the two bench seats just like on the prowler 8ft. Also keep my anchor and ropes inside the milk crate. Before I got my outboard I used my 55 trolling moter on the Tennessee River and it moves pretty good and will get the job done. A DC 29 battery will last 10 hours with a lot of use. Can't afford the poh lithium ones but that would really be the deal. Anyway well worth the money. Also you can see how to install drain p,ugh throughout the boat on KZread. I didn't. Have fun everyone and stay safe onthe water.

You just dont have a lot of room and you cant take a lot and you cant go super far without maybe rowing back :) but in the evenings after work or for a few hours from early morning till lunchtime, we used to burn it up.

At 74, I have two boats, a 1953 Crestliner 12' decked bow commander, and a 59 Crestliner 15' Voyager, both all aluminum. The 12' is rated for a 30, I've run a 35 on it, but very low freeboard, the Voyager is a decent old boat with a nice splash well large enough to accommodate the fat V4 OMC outboards.

I took a load of scrap metal to a nearby scrap dealer. They had a pile of aluminum scrap including boats in it. Most of the boats looked in pretty good shape except the seats were rotted out and of course they hadn’t been handled with care. It was sad to see them in a scrap pile.

Had to get a salvage title, but that little 12 foot sure brought a bunch of good memories. Too bad that my ex wife thought that the kids didn't need it. In her eyes fishing was just another "F" word they shouldn't be saying.

Wayne, you are correct I myself could never afford a new boat I always bought used at least a 8yr. old know more than 10yrs. old because of insurance coverage on out-drives for every year over 10yrs. you insurance coverage is less on your out-drive. My first boat was a 8yr. old 25ft. Sea Ray Sundance had that for 5yrs. then I bought a 8yr. old 27ft. Formula had 5yrs. and got out of boating for 8yrs. Now I'm buying a new 2023 Sea Doo GTX 170 jetski as my retirement gift to myself. The bass boat is a used 16 foot bought for $800, the crappie boat is 15 foot bought for $600, and a 14 foot semi -v hull aluminum boat bought for $300, were all used. The 14 foot flat bottom Jon boat was bought new for $700 three years ago. Sold the semi -v hull aluminum boat 2 years ago it was too unstable for this overweight old guy. I bought a 14 foot aluminum V bottom boat, with a real nice trailer, a marine battery, two anchors and two outboards. Neither of the outboards ran, but were in good shape. I sold one and used the proceeds to get the other one fixed. That whole package deal cost me $500 dollars! Both the boat and outboard I kept are 1969 models and the boat has never been painted. I've spent much of my life fishing back bays and a 16' aluminum is what I'd consider minimum for safety. It'll allow you to fish very shallow water but still make it back in if the wind really kicks up. A few years back I purchased an 85 model 17' mckee craft. $3000 but I had to have the engine repaired. Still it has room for three or four people, all our gear and is so stable two 200 pound men can lean over one side and barely tilt the boat at all. For my ponds at home I was given a 12' aluminum and all I did to it was spray a coat of pain on it to make it look like new.

The 12ft or the second boat like you said needs a drain hole all the way to the back . Plus I think that it also needs to turn the plastic ribs around so that any water flows to the back, plus the boat needs a flat part in the floor so that you can bail water out of , as of now your stuck with any and all water and mud you get in it ,plus it would make it so much easier to clean out instead of standing it practically straight up and down to raise 😊

The guys at Adventures with Purpose do great demos of the genre on their KZread channels. The added benefit for people living in apartments and driving small cars is that they fit in a closet and in the trunk or back seat when deflated. I have 2 in different locations and they set up and inflate in about 5 minutes with a cheap electric air mattress pump, topped off with the higher pressure (15PSI) manual pump that comes with them. I get 10MPH with a 5HP motor and over 20MPH with a 15HP, but the 15HP is scary.

Oar holders from a Boat Guy. They are called Oar Locks around this area. For myself and for a lot of years I made my own boats from wood. They included Canoes , Kayaks , Pirogues , Skiffs and Row Boats. The canoes and kayaks from 17 1/2 feet to 15 and about 32 pounds each.

If you keep that 12' boat in the water with those compartments not connected a bilge pump wouldn't work and you'd have to bail it out after the rain. I got a Coleman Crawdad, I live lake front and it goes in in the spring and comes out in the fall, got an electric trolling motor mounted in the front and a 6 HP Merc on the back and a bilge pump keeping it dry. Since it is a flat bottom I have to tilt it to pump it completely dry, but its never full of rainwater no matter how much rain we get....Since I have a battery I added lights so no one will run me down at night.

Correction: Aluminum Duranautics and Jons are unique to North america. Lowe, Marathon, and others still make them. Plastic boats ate for brackish or full salt, and are popular in Asia. Faced with salt water, i'd prefer to make a dugout outrigger and scoot it with a Chinese 4 cycle outboard. 53 CC is fine.

Seconding the "slightly bigger boat" opinion here. My mom and I are both a bit on the 'hefty' side, and we bought a small 8 foot or so rowboat a long time ago thinking it would be okay. It immediately tried to sink when we got in it, and I had to jump out into the lake so it didn't. She rowed around a bit after while I waited on shore, soaking wet, and we haven't used it since 😂😢

There is no better way to waste money than to buy a (brand) new boat!!! Sharp smart. Inspect thoroughly and get a "boat load" more value buying "pre-owned" (as I like say rather than "used"). Granted, there is some real junk out there for sale but there is also some phenomenal great deals as well. Just gotta be patient and shop around for a good while before jumping on something (unless of course you get lucky and find a nice boat for a fair price). Your $500 14' boat can literally look like new with a little pit of paint, polish and elbow grease if appearance even matters, which in the grand scheme of things, is least important.
