For natural peanut butters like that, you generally have to stir them up when you first open them. The oil separates out since they have no stabilizers. If you don't mix it up the top is generally more oily and the bottom more dried out. It can be a pain sometimes to mix them.

That's part of their strategy. Aldi is the same. If everything looks the same it's easier to plan the shelf layout for max profit (one fits all) and the costumers are happy because they'll find their stuff in every store roughly at the same place. There are some variations due to renovation and innovation, but it's pretty much the same for all stores.

Icing sugar is called “powdered sugar” in the States so most folks there would assume you make it by grinding regular granulated sugar. Also, many supermarkets there have a selection of nuts in large plastic hoppers with grinders attached to them so you can make your own butter blends which go straight from nut to jar.

Thanks for another fun food trip, Barry. My wife loves the pb cups and this video got me thinking, I might just see if I can make a giant one for her using my 10" tart pan. I like adding coconut oil to my homemade peanut butter. It's heart-healthy, it adds a more rounded nut flavor to the product, and it works very well with chocolate. Rather than honey (which can introduce some clashing pollen flavors), I sweeten the peanut butter with ultra-fine sugar. Just whiz the sugar up in a coffee grinder and that's it. I don't add corn flour because it gives a cleaner flavor without it. The only reason you have corn flour in the stuff you get from the store is to keep it from clumping, and that's not really an issue when you're dumping it right into a recipe.

It's easy to make icing sugar... Just use one one those small electric coffee grinders and load it with normal sugar. Then zhuzh it and get your powder.

I make my own icing sugar and caster sugar from granulated. I don't add corn flour. Just grind... To desired size

I was thinking about that. I do the same thing. And I think that's where the DIY version went wrong. I don't think the corn flour blended through the entire amount of sugar. And Mrs. B scooped from the 'top' inside the blender cavity, so I think those cups had a LOT of cornflower in them compared to sugar and it threw off the taste.

Home made peanut butter but no home made chocolate? Get cocoa butter, cacao powder, get some sort of double boiler going, sweeten as you like, add milk or milk powder as you like and you are golden. The reaction to milling/grinding granulated sugar to get icing sugar was priceless though.

Another great fun video. - Cheap versus steep, how about meat cuts( steaks/minced meat). Of course you could do intensive farmed meat versus freerange or organic fruit and vegtables versus cheap supermarket. - Tomatoes are the easiest to notice a difference with,in my opinion.

You need to do one of these with different rice (converted, white, brown, etc) and also test what cooking method is the best (pot on stove, cheap rice cooker, fancy cooker, etc).
