Cheap tricks: Curved XPS Walls

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

No demons were accidentally summoned during the making of this video.
This video is just a quick experiment I did to see if I could make a curved brick wall out of a single piece of XPS foam, after watching Mike from Nat 1 Videos build a curved piece of terrain using individual bricks (see: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aKyklsSBcs3RhJs.html). I don't have a project in mind for this, but any suggestions are welcome.

The other videos where I use the pencil technique for brickwork are the base toppers (kzread.info/dash/bejne/mq5msLSkdsKbabA.html), the loot counters (kzread.info/dash/bejne/mH2sk65sf5CwYLQ.html) the half-timber ruin (kzread.info/dash/bejne/l4mrqZibgc7aaLw.html) and the ruined bridge (kzread.info/dash/bejne/oaGd1rZmktnbd6g.html)

Nice method, a little bit meticulous use of time. Works well for crafters working with a low cost budget. If you can though a couple small buys can help out tremendously in the save time department. A couple tips for speeding up the process. 1. Find a cheap textured wooden rolling pin there's a wide variety of styles online but the general off the shelf ones found in dollar stores or kitchen supply stores. Bash it up, scar it up with abrassive surface damage until you get a textured look that works an use the rolling pin over your sheets of bricks. 2. There is a handy 3d printed roller, either STL pattern or prefab that is basically the same as option 1, but designed to make a brick wall pattern over a wide surface layout, I believe in a similar width to what you've done by hand, or possibly taller/wider.

Texture rollers are absolutely faster! The only reason I don't use them is that I find drawing them by hand really relaxing and I'm usually in no rush to finish. For people who need to crank out a piece of terrain, rollers are 100% the way to go.

If you're using hot glue or superglue I'd seriously recommend wearing them. Otherwise it's kind of optional.

Interesting technique. It will be great for breaking up straight lines on your mordheim games

Thanks! It also opens up options for different types of building. One thing I want to see is how small this can scale, as it would make stuff like wells and fountains dead easy.

@@Karlmakesstuff the smaller the curve the more issue you will have with keeping it curved. For something smaller, maybe use a base with cocktail stick spikes to secure the curve and build from 2-4 sections?

I was actually thinking a full circle, which (in my head at least) should be more stable as the ends lock to each other. Might need to pin the ends together to make it stronger, but still need to play around with the idea. I like the idea of cocktail sticks for segmented builds, regardless of the curvature it's a good idea for reinforcement.
