When you were young and these bunch of (classic now) rock bands were coming out, you tend to like one than the other and think that they're in competition with each other. And now that you're older, your favorite bands are criscrossing and crossover to and play with each other and you lose count how many of them have played with one another.

Went to a Kiss concert in Oct '75 and Styx opened for them. Styx came on and I looked at my friend and said "who's the kid on stage playing guitar?" Tommy had just joined the band. I know the official records say he joined Styx in December of that year, but he was there with them in that Oct show. Great musician!!

I heard Tommy getting interviewed on W.R.I.F radio in Detroit. They took questions and some women asked him how he hits the high notes still. He answered " Thong underwear 2 sizes too small" I laughed the whole night thinking of that

My first non parent concert was KISS, opened by Cheap Trick. Oddly enough, Trick split the tour with Styx. That was 1977, same summer as Star Wars and Frampton Comes Alive owned the airwaves.

Maybe because Styx is still headlining and selling out large venues while Cheap Trick can’t. Also the guys in Cheap Trick, especially Mr I’m the Guitar God are assholes. I was on a flight for business where they bought all the seats in business class so they wouldn’t have to sit near anyone. They wouldn’t speak to anyone or acknowledge anyone and were dicks to the flight attendants. This was about 10 years ago. That’s when I lost respect for them. I’ve flown on flights with other musicians they were nice and everyone always respected their privacy.

Know what you mean, I could never get into Styxs style when there were so many other good bands then. Dennis DeYoung did to Styx what Phil Collins did to Genisis ( after Peter Gabriel left). Going pop ruined them both for me, although Phil was a good drummer, his pop sensibilities ruined Genisis for me.
