I appreciate you mentioning the second-hand market in this vid. Most of my wardrobe is second-hand since the retail prices of tech items can be waaay out of my price range. I've been doing this for years and I've had no real issue doing it, as long as you're relatively savvy about it

For the straps during DIY: To seal the edges, carefully burn them with a lighter. They're synthetic and will melt (quite a lot if you're not careful) when near the flame. Just be careful when you do, as it can drip quite easily (and this is not the kind of drip you want to wear!) and give you some nasty burns. Keep the lighter as far away as possible while still getting the effect. Also keep in mind that if the opening of a metal thingamabob (it's 2am on a saturday, cut me some slack lol) is just wide enough to fit the ribbony stuff, this will widen the edge ever so slightly and possibly not fit through so you might want to do that after despite the risk of fraying it a little.

I appreciate the recommendation for DIY. For a lot of aesthetic styles, there's always this fear that you HAVE to buy the big brands or shell out a bunch of money or else it's not legitimate, when the styles usually came about through people piecing different things together or making little DIY modifications to pre-existing items until they coalesced into something that you could call an aesthetic. DIY is also great for extending the shelf life of the things you buy, both for freshening up a look and for the actual longevity of the item.

Sowing addict here. Would love some diy for 2 reasons: 1 - inspiration (basically why I follow you) 2 - motivating ppl to try making things themselves. Theres no need to start with a fancy jacket. There are a lot of easy projects around. All needed is a needle, some yarn & a little patience. Making something is also very rewarding. Fiddling with the current project for a bit after a tough day will always settle my mind. And in the end I have a result I cant deny.

+1 on the shemaghs, I bought a pack of 3 off Amazon (black, black/white and white/black) for a pittance and they have quickly become an autumn staple for going outside, they keep my neck just warm enough and double as a 3-layer bandana mask if you need one in a pinch. As for belts, I like the fidlock etc clasps, but one thing I do dig that I've only seen rarely is the pull-tab torsion buckle on Heron Preston belts - END currently have a couple on sale (but if you're not averse to KOs AliX have good quality versions for next-to-nothing)

Antwon hitting again. I have a mil-surp shemagh and netscarf (both black) that I picked up for next to nothing on Amazon, great little touches to round a fit. Recommend washing gentle in cold before wearing, these kinds of military gear are died and sent, so they smell and feel ghastly when you first get them, but one nice wash and they become super soft.

I my opinion Naomi Wu's review is very well researched. Her review is 30 min long so the TLDR: face gasket doesnt create an airtight seal, the "N95" filters are small and not certified, ther's no check valve on exhaust, they used the wrong type of fans (axial instead of centrifugal) that are useless in a facemask.

I do find that Molle is usually a miss with fashion brands. Usually out of spec (usually not stiff, incorrect spacing, or weak stitching). Milsurp is money when it comes to Molle fit, even more when you go into the high end brands like LBT or Crye. As a plus, dyeing and tailoring service and battle dress uniforms can make really unique colorways, or custom fits for the adventurous.

By the way there is a new Arc'teryx Atom LT that's a pretty subtle take on a bomber jacket. I got it because the one I have (same as you) got too big for me, and I really like the new one. It doesn't have the panels under the arms anymore, and I'm not sure how to feel about that, but the color is really nice, it's a very dark, almost black, blue (they call it Kingfisher).
