Look into a Hiblow diaphragm pump with one or two diffusers. You can make em. Its low pressure so the diffusers need to be at about 4ft depth at most. It will aerate and you can run it 365. Keeping the water open in winter is VERY helpful for the fish. Pump doesn't use much power and it'd be perfect for your small pond. Thanks for a cost effective fountain. Much appreciated.

Thanks. About every 6 months pull the fountain out, clean the intake screens and check the electrical connections.

@@UncleJessy also check pond aquatics magazine and they have different treatments for algae bloom problems. We were in the same boat reason why we researched and came up with this. Has helped our fish and the look of the pond.

Hi . You were short of cord from the pump to the receptacle . How did you safely extend the extension cord or did you just move the pump closer. I was thinking to run a really nice cord thru a flexible one piece pipe out to the pump float . But as a DIY er I'm about saving money lol but still doing it safely . !!! Do you remove it during the winter or just unplug it

To attain higher fountain height taper down from 3” to 2”. Revise Cap hole design, 3 equally spaced 1/8 inch slots near the outer perimeter of the cap the drill symmetrical holes different sizes. One hole at center. There is a spray foam for ponds and pools. Good job! Thank you.

Couple wiffs lol Nice fountain man, definitely moved to the top of the to do list

I think I'd prefer a minumum 3/4 hp (1hp=746w) with overload protection. But IMO I'd pay a little extra for a better model pump. Remember, GFCI ONLY protects from ground fault, NOT an overcurrent/overload condition. Must keep filter clean. If the pump fails it has already been running at higher amps, motor windings heated and fused, etc. If really wanted to protect from overcurrent/overload, as an added protection put an inline fuse holder and fuse in a larger 4" receptacle box with the GFCI (maybe 8-10 amps).

When using a fountain to prevent pond turn over you need to make sure the water feeding the pump is draw from the bottom (colder) of the water column. Your essentially trying to mix the water in the top of the column with the colder water resting at the bottom.

This is a fantastic video. You have inspired me to do this project with my son.. can't wait! You saved about 2k doing it this way instead of buying a fountain, plus, have the bonus of having fun building it! Smart! One question I have.... have you considered adding led lights to it? I love the look of the fountains that light up at night.. and I am thinking it might not be too hard to accomplish. What are your thoughts?

I did look into the LED lights, just wasn’t sure of which direction to go. There has been advancements with the LED lights that I think it would be a great asset to the fountain.

I also made your fountain and it works great but I was just wondering why do we reduce the pipe from the pump 3” to 2” then the nozzle back to 3”??? Could we just stay at 3” straight up to the nozzle??

Yes, we had to counter weight the sides so it would level out.

How’s it holding up a year later. I liked your idea and execution. I’m in the process of building one (replacing the not so great one that was in the pond when we bought the place) and thinking of doing it like yours. But wondered how the foam was holding up.

Yes we ran power underground to our pool pump panel. I am not familiar on solar panels but I am sure that would definitely be an option

What did you do to resolve the length of the cord for the pump? You said at the end on the dock that you needed more length than what came original to the pump. An extension cord plugged into a GFI?

I went to Home Depot and bought 30 feet of submersible pump wire. Then I spliced the two together using butt connectors and heat shrink. Then I put a bigger heat shrink over the entire connection and let it dry. That is hardwired to a GFI plug.

Working on something like this myself do you think if I had to run an extension cord a 100' to run the sump pump do you think I would need a 12 Gauge or all the way down to a 10 gauge cord for that length of run

We used a waterproof butt connectors, heat shrink, and wrapped with electrical tape.

We are about to do a video on maintenance and cleaning soon. About every 3-4 months.

Another question for you. I got the same kind of pump (9000gph) and someone who I trust told me if I put a cap on the top, like you, I would restrict the water flow and burn up the pump. Have you experienced anything like that with your setup?

It was hilarious though, I showed the video to my wife she has been after me for a while put a fountain in the pond. But like you I did not want to spend a few thousand dollars to do it.

Im wondering what the cost is to operator the advantage of the aerators is it uses a diaphram pump and a lot less power so the TCOO may actually be higher. Of course you also don't get a cool fountain without the aerator

Good way to lose a finger or leg with your circular saw technique. Your blade should never be extended beyond what you need to cut. , which was about 1/8". Also dont brace something with your fleshy thigh.

I like the video but you as a parent have to watch your kid sniffing that glue. They get sick from smelling that glue. You could tell he as hooked. I had to work around glue once where I became sick as a junk yard dog. You kept saying DO NOT SMELL THE GLUE. WHY!!!! Didn't you mean what you said. Be an EXAMPLE!!!!! Other than that I like the video.
