Cheap 🔨 DIY 🔨 Ladder Tree Stands... (2x4's)
Ойын-сауық
Here we built some 16' ladder tree stands out of 2x4's. It's a Easy and fairly Cheap way to make 4 to 6 tree stands for the cost of just 1 of the normal metal ladder stands! The Wood we used was (5) 2x4x16 and (2) 2x3x8.. You could use all 2x4's (6)(2x4x16) but we didn't want our shooting rail any wider than necessary so we went with 2x3's instead of the extra 2x4. Ether way cost is about the same at $35-40 per stand.

Thanks!
Be glad you built this when you did, wood prices in 2023, buying a traditional ladder stand is about the equivalent price.

Yea for sure!.. especially back over pandemic, wood was insane! Prices are back down alot, probably could be done for around $65-75 but I guess that could vary greatly depending on area.
I knew this video was old, $35 will buy just couple pieces of lumber now

I’m a big guy (6’4 350lbs) I’m not going to want to be that high up so short lumber will be cheaper, and like you said in your video I already have screws and hard ware laying around
I don’t comment often but had to take a sec to tell you that you are AWESOME!

With todays battery tools, you can build on site with small cedar trees for ladder,last for years and look natural

Nice stand. Good job. Try to cut some dados for your steps to inset into rails. Be more secure and will last longer than just relying on screws alone

We have some like this on our club. We put cloth on the sides to help hide you and I have a piece of cloth that goes over the front so it covers you also

Just put the camo leaf stuff on ours for this season as well! Makes a Huge difference!!
I would love to see a material list and or video of you putting them together. Also, how did those steps hold up?

@@cumminsperformancs I hope that's good news. 😁
I noticed that the ladder is not straight up and down or on a 90° angle with the top portion of the stand. What kind of angle is the ladder part at connected to the top part??
@cumminsperformancs

Not exactly sure without measuring it.. I kicked the bottom of the ladder out around 2 feet for much easier climbing.
I would caulk junction of steps w rail. And use a heavy duty truckers ratchet strap to attach to tree. Tough to get in that stand w a backpack on
@cumminsperformancs
3 жыл бұрын
Yea caulk or liquid nails would probably be a good idea! Bigger strap would be needed if not using the braces like we did that are fastened to the tree.. Yea, its a little tight getting under rail with a backpack.. We considered making rail hinged, but like how sturdy it is like this. Most times we just pop backpack off at top of steps and sit it on floor beside seat. Works Well, & we Definitely like the setup!

I tie 2 ropes with caribeners to the top. I clip my backpack to one and gun or bow to other. Makes climbing any stand alot easier and safer.
Hey with the wood being so high now the cost to make one is about the same amount to buy a metal ladder stand is it still worth building the wood one ?
@cumminsperformancs
3 жыл бұрын
Probably not, unless wood prices drop back down!
Do you have a video on how to build it?
@cumminsperformancs
2 жыл бұрын
Sorry I don't.. It was a rainy year and we were kinda rushed getting them done before the season started. I did give most measurements, so following the picture should be pretty easy.
can you include cut lengths of platform?
@cumminsperformancs
Жыл бұрын
You can make it whatever you want or works best for your setup.. Ours is around 32 inches for the long floor rails that attach to tree.. the floor itself is around 27" by 27" all depends how wide you make your ladder.
Did you prefabricate them?
@cumminsperformancs
4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I built them, painted them, then left sit outside for a week.. Then took them to the woods.. Will be doing a 1 year follow up video this fall.
nowadays lumber prices 4x the price. good build either way

How does the wild life react to them? Please if you can, get some vids or cam shots with the tree stands

Most wildlife don't even acknowledge that they are there.. Deer walk right under them.. Squirrels climb them some, but thats about it. I'm planning to do a follow up video this fall showing how they are after being out in the elements for a year!

@@cumminsperformancs Thank you, do you think the smell of the pressure treated wood has any affect? I am sure not, since you mentioned that wildlife is grazing just below it.
@cumminsperformancs
4 жыл бұрын
It has light paint over everything so if anything it would be a paint smell for a week or two.. We put them up in middle of summer, (like you should with any stand) so it had plenty of time to settle in before hunting season in the fall..
Pressure Treated wood?
@cumminsperformancs
3 жыл бұрын
Definitely want to use treated.. We used 2x3 for shooting rail since they work better, and it's not holding up as well as rest, not bad, but definitely a visible difference.
Great ladder!! But NOW???. NOT cheap!!!! Lumber has NEVER been so high!!!!! #FJB ! Let’s Go Brandon!!!
This might have been cheap back then!!! But NOW?!! Helll nawww! 2x4 studs are 7.99 at Lowe’s!!!🙄🙄
