Cheap DIY fix for Fujitsu Mini-Split A/C unit - Cover won't move
Ойын-сауық
This video shows how to replace the gear which makes the cover rise when a Fujitsu mini-split is turned on. These gears are a massive point of failure, with three of four in our house failing when they were about 4-5 years old.
The gear is about $10 on line (part number at 3:38), but the HVAC company wanted $600 (if memory serves) for a fix which took me 7 minutes, this last time.
Not sure how many models have this issue (model is Halcyon, FWIW), and I'm not responsible if you damage your stuff. Void where prohibited. Don't go over your head if you can't swim.

I can’t find a distributor who will sell retail for the part. Any suggestions? I’m in WASHINGTON state but anywhere would help. Thanks.

Looks like they're making bootleg copies of the gears on Etsy. They're more expensive, and potentially more fragile, but it's something, at least.

I found only one company in Canada who sold it to me . Costal heat pump in Victoria BC. @@bothellbill
Hey Rich, my wife is in love with you (actually in love with your mohawk) and I am in love with the $600. you saved us. She sent me out of the room (I tend to screw repairs up) and 30 minutes later she had it fixed. Hard to believe those repair people would not be ashamed to charge you that much. There is a special place in heaven for you guys who post these videos. Thanks, thanks, thanks.

Keeper!!! 🖤
First: GREAT VIDEO! The hardest part for me would be to manipulate those three clips. This is how i solved that: I removed the 2 clamps and then just loosened the 3 clips. Then I grabbed the rod with a pair of needle nose pliers, slid it out just far enough to remove the broken gear, installed the new gear and tightened up the 3 and reinstalled the clamps. If I hadn't seen how difficult it was for you, I'd have done exactly as you did. THANKS!!! for you excellent video.

Me too!
When you have the lid assembly off….undo the 2 end screws and loosen the other 3. The rod will slide and you can replace the gear….much easier!
Very well done video with still shots and red circles to make clear which screws he was referring too. Very clear and helpful. Thanks!

Followed your video in detail, AND WE FIXED IT. Took two retirees to watch, stop, do, start again. We used our hands, not the drill. Oh. The part, for those looking for it -- Adam in Rego Park NY has a "printer", and printed two of these. Took a week or two to arrive. THEN: We needed to ream out the cog's "tube", due a a slight ridge inside it, that kept the metal rod from inserting past the midpoint. With a carefully used small circular file, and gentle wacks with a rubber mallet, we drove the rod through. Amazing! We don't have to tape that sucker up anymore. Fujitsu, you guys were very bad.....

Good job! Definitely interested in the long-term longevity of the printed gears vs. the poor performance of the stock version.
He’s 💯 % right those door are always breaking exactly how he said it. Good break down. Great video. I’m going to do a blower wheel and motor on one tomorrow not looking forward to it it’s in a tough spot with an electrical box right untop of it making it impossible to access some screws
Hey buddy. You just saved me $300 in Australia for a service call to Fujitsu. Perfect video. Thank you

Yeah, same for me down in Tasmania.
This video was super helpful. Appreciated the emphasis on getting the clips positioned correctly, "under, under, under". I would have messed that up. $10 and about 30 minutes of time. Success. The Channel t-shirt was cool too.
This is legendary. Just done this fix. Awesome - thanks heaps
Thank you so much! This video was super helpful - i was able to fix my AC unit b/c of it.
Just completed this fix on our unit. So gratifying to DIY! Thanks so much for your excellent, detailed video.
I have just repaired my Fujitsu heat pump using your video instructions. To take out the old gear you just need to unscrew the bracket ( top right hand side opposite end to gear). The D shaped rod can then be slid out. Once past the gear, the gear can be removed. Fit new one, slide bar back through, then replace bracket and screw. Job done ( apart from refixing door to heat pump as shown in your video). Your video was a great help and saved a lot of money. We were similarly quoted $600 plus dollars to replace the door. Parts plus delivery cost $55 nzd.

You got this!!!
Great tutorial I will say I dont recommend using power tools for plastic screws unless youre feeling the screw grove, by spinning the screw backwards until you feel it pop into the grove and then drive. Youll eventually strip out the plastic housing.

It sounds like it's about to fail completely. 😕
What setting did you have your drill on? I wanna make sure I do not strip the screw hole
@spike443
Жыл бұрын
Always all the way down when dealing with plastic, but if you don't know your drill well, it's best to tighten by hand. For instance, my girlfriend's Ryobi (I'm using here) has *way* more torque on its lowest setting, than any other cordless drill I've owned (on their lowest settings), and I stripped a few things (nothing as expensive as a mini-split) before I got used to it.
I can’t get this part from anywhere. Everyone is out of stock or won’t sell to me as non contractor!
