Chauvet DJ Hurricane Haze 4D (Review - 3 Defective Units In 3 Months)

I don't usually like to post negative product reviews but this is one I had to do. We've had 3 of the Hurricane Haze 4D hazers die on us in the last 3 months.

I have had nearly the exact same issue as you with 2 of my own and 2 others that a client/club owner insisted on trying and none of them are working-- at this time . This was about 3 years ago as of now when im posting and I've went back to mainly running and recommending the HAZE 2d bc it almost always works with no issue. If you clean the 2d monthly with vinegar and water decently they seem to go and go and go. and I do events that at time last 6 to 8 or more hours straight's with continuous haze being needed and the 2ds have always kep on kicking.

We purchased one for our church in May 2017 and use it for about 7 hours on a Sunday and few hours once or twice a month other days.. now we are noticing a bad hum coming from the unit... but it has its days where it puts out nice amount of haze other days not so much..

Thank you for the video. I've got an HH2D, never had an issue out of it for the two years I've had it, but wanted a slight upgrade, so purchased a HH4D. I opened it up two days ago, filled & powered up, and the atomizer immediately started humming. The fan stays on lowest RPM setting at idle, and atomizer puts out a small jets of hot air as well. Never stops humming, where as the 2D is completely silent at idle. It puts out haze, but I'm afraid this thing is going to burn out before I get to really use it. Looking at exchanging it for an ADJ Entourage Flight Case.

I'd be careful with any of the new models that boast a really fast heat up time. Unless they have updated the heating element they tend to burn out. I'd look at Antari.

We've had one die in less than a month and the second die after 5 hours. The Customer Service tech who answered the phone at Chauvet asked if I had opened the unit yet to "reset the thermal switch." I've opened the top and don't see any "thermal switch." When I tried to call back, a machine answered, so perhaps Customer Service is closed for the evening. To be continued... :-/

was considering purchasing this unit or the Chauvet Hurricane Haze 1DX. Would u have some feedback on that particular unit over the Hurricane 4D u reviewed? Both seem like solid options for non commercial use and I wouldn't mind paying slightly more if the build quality or features were worth the cost. However, as well all know, sometimes the upgrade isn't worth the cost and it seems like you haven't had good luck with the 4D..

Yep, I had a 1DX as well. That unit worked quite good. It has a standard heating element that doesn't burn out as easily. But if you want a really good hazer get an Antari Z350. I have two of them now and they are the best I've owned. Just make sure you buy their recommended fluid.

I'm happy to hear you got over a year out of yours. I wish I had been that lucky. Did you run the fan at full blast? I had been wondering if the fact that we ran the fan at a very low output (like around 5%) had something to do with them dying on us so fast. At this point I don't want to buy another one to test that theory. lol I actually swapped over to the ADJ Entour Venue and so far I'm very happy with how it works. The output is nice an even and it fills the room we use it in at a very low output setting. With this new hazer we have been running the fan at 100% just to be on the safe side. Eventually I will do a video on the ADJ Entour Venue but I want to have it running in the venue for at least 6 months before I make any premature comments on it and recommend whether or not someone should buy it.

Very frustrating indeed. We switched over to the ADJ Entour Venue so far I'm happy with it. The output and evenness of the haze coverage is better than the 4D. I've been running the fan at 100% on this new hazer just in case that helps cool the heater down so it doesn't burn out. I'll eventually do a video on the new hazer but I want to let it run in the venue for a few more months before I throw out a buy recommendation. But I will say if our ADJ Entour Venue is still kicking after 6 months I'll say it's definitely the hazer you want to buy.

My understanding is that this is due to using the wrong fluid ie a incompatible evaporation temp or density. Every time i’ve had one die it because people have put in a different fluid. Would you mind confirming if you used another fluid that wasnt chuvet haze? Also what do you use now.

  • @TheAngrySoundTech

You want me to send you a pic of all my left over Chauvet haze fluid? Lol I bought the recommended chauvet fluid and when I bought my Antari I bought the fluid they recommended. It has nothing to do with fluid. They changed the heating element to a new quick heat up element that isn't as reliable. So if you get the 1D or the 2D they work just fine because they have the non-quick heat up element.

@@TheAngrySoundTech can i have the left over fluid then? Ive used Antari, Jem, smoke factory and the rest. I’ve never known any to last except the expensive ones that have a power off button the clears the pumps after every use. The type of fluid does make a difference not just if its oil or water based. Go to any club and they have piles of failed machines out the back. I’m just trying to understand the products better so i can stop this. Seriously if your going through that many machines your not a mobile DJ stop buying mobile DJ products and get the proper kit. Its clearly costing you more in the long run. I mean who keeps buying the same product after if keeps failing.

I didn't even bother sending ours in for warranty repair. Chucked them right in the dumpster after I made the video. I didn't want to waste the money on shipping. Figured once I got them back they would just die again. I have swapped over to the ADJ Entour Venue and so far it works great. We've only had it for a month or two tho so I can't speak yet to the longevity of the unit. Once we have had it in action for about 6 months I'll do a review on the ADJ Entour Venue.

what do you think about the Elation Professional MAGMA PRIME 700W Haze Machine?

  • @TheAngrySoundTech

    @TheAngrySoundTech

    3 жыл бұрын

I've actually never heard of that one before. I looked it up though and it looks an awful lot like my Antari Z-350. I do solidly recommend the Z-350. That unit has been a workhorse for me and I've had no issues whatsoever. Now does Elation make their own hazers or do they sell rebranded Antari hazers??? That is the question... Because if that is just an upgraded and rebranded Z-350 I'd say go for it! I like the look of it and now I kinda want one. The main problem I was having with heating units burning out stemmed from hazers having the quick heat up element. The quick heat up elements were new and failed way too easy. From what I heard wires would break inside the element. This Elation doesn't look like it has a quick heat up element and because it's Elation it should be built to a higher standard than a standard ADJ or Chauvet hazer.

General maintenance/ servicing of your lights will ensure that you won't have oil dripping off your fixtures. We do occasionally get moving lights returned with oil leaking from it (only because our client runs the hazer running) But general servicing of lights will be fine I use to own the chauvet haze 2d and 3d, both were unreliable, took it back to my dealer, got my money back and bought 2 Antari Z350 Fazers and 1x Antari Haze 400 (about to buy another) Highly recommend the Antari Z-350 Fazer The Haze 100 and haze generator would most likely be made by the same manufacturer in Taiwan
