This may now be may favorite interpretation of this wonderful piece. Violin students ought to carefully study Mr Rosand’s exquisite phrasing and gleaming tone. The music breathes and speaks in his hands. No histrionics, contortions, or grimaces. Just honest, yet profound mastery and timeless artistry.

Chloe Chua's recent interpretation has all the virtues you mention, but magnified ten-fold.

He was 76 years old at the time - amazing at any age.

I studied this work with Maestro Rosand in 1981- he had many markings from Ysaye. There was no one like Aaron Rosand for exquisite sound, style and interpretation of these great gems of the violin repertoire. Thank you for uploading this performance.

Rosand has an amazing, lyrical sound full of melancholy. 💜

Very beautifully played, Mr Sung. Those inner tremolos are very challenging to control.

I heard that he usually withdrew from dinner and went back to practice. And he never boasted about his skill.

Was this recital really given in 2004? If so, Rosand is the best looking 76 year old I have ever seen!
