**Whitney's Miltank uses ROLLOUT** That was trauma-inducing back in the day. It was only later that players figured out to trade for the Machop in the Goldenrod Department Store for an easier playthrough. For us who played the original Gold/Silver when they first came out back in 2000/2001, there were no strategy guides, no walkthroughs you can look up online. We only got through Goldenrod through sheer brute force by over-leveling.

Indeed, normal type is good. You can't ignore the fact that it only has one type disadvatage. Though there are limited normal types that are actually good. Look at Larry's Dudunsparce. Not to mention Perfect Bidoof. And have you seen Whitney's Miltank? The nuzlocke run destroyer?

Most normal type pokemon rely on their own stat and ability to actually shine due to normal type's lack of strength and weakness. And game freak has a tendency to just add normal type to random pokemons that add nothing to them *cough cough flying normal cough cough*
