I think the background looks magical! The reason why it’s brighter pink at the bottom can be because it’s coming from the fairy’s wings! Extra magic there 🤷🏼‍♀️ don’t be so hard on yourself. Dots really do solve all lol.

Honestly, I really like the background! I think it looked fine! But ultimately what matters is if you like it!

I feel like maybe the pink background is a magical light that came and lit the lamp for the magical crystal hedgehog, i love that we can make stories about this type of picture and it can be many different things for different people, just like we colour with different styles and ideas x

Sorry for your daughter’s illness! Mine had strep and mono at the same time in fourth grade - it took about three months for her to get all the way back to normal, and we took turns taking time off work for a while so she could just crash at home in the afternoons. It’s always hard when the kids aren’t feeling good, but know you’re not alone and hang in there!

I think you softened the lines of the pink lighting perfectly and when everything else is done that will bring this wonderful pink glow around the lantern and crystal hedgehog. can't wait to see the completed page. as for natural disasters.. ha! so true! I live (and grew up in) the PNW. and yes, i do remember Mt St Helens- so we have earthquakes, wild fire and volcanoes. and ice storms. tornadoes seem terrifying in comparison- we saw one in the distance nebraska on a coast to coast road trip and I was like 'nope nope nope...' i've lived in Florida and hurricanes also seem terrifying but at least predicted with more time to plan/get out. tornadoes are funnels from hell that just appear. LOL

Erica, I love this background! Truly, I think it looks so cool! Very pretty, magical and mystical. I know that doesn't help how you feel about it. I get it. This has happened to me so many times. I am stubborn and will sit there for hours trying to fix something. LOL If I can't fix it, then I will abandon it, but usually I have found it can be fixed in most cases. Yes, to white dots! They make everything look better. LOL!! I have no doubt you will make your Johanna page look amazing! I look forward to seeing this one done. I love that page, one of my favorites in that book. I live in Ohio, so we are neighbors. We had those storms move in as well. We had 8 confirmed tornados on the ground in central Ohio, to the West of where I'm at in NE Ohio, most were near the Columbus area. We just skated by one of those tornados. It was on the ground, up and down, heading into our area from about an hour west of us right before that storm moved in and it dissipated before hitting our area. We still got a wicked thunderstorm, but we missed the tornado, luckily. I know a couple of the tornados that hit here Thursday night leveled homes and some people died. So scary and sad. Yes, if you live in the midwest it is just something you deal with. Girl, so many times I went outside to the front porch to watch the storm and see what was going on! This is definitely a midwest thing. Haha! I hope your daughter recovers soon and it doesn't end up being mono. I never did get mono back in the day (thankfully), but did have a couple classmates who did, and they were out of school for a couple months. Hoping this is not the case for your baby. I think you saved the page. You were able to soften the edges with the pencils, and the white and pink dots also added to the effect. I think when you finish the page, it will be magical 🩷! It was good to see you work through the page because I have some wips that I want to try and finish. It’s such a great feeling when you do. I have actually finished a couple of long term WIPS this month. The Shangri la book just came out, and I got a copy also. I think it’s stunning. I can’t wait to see what you do in it. Take care🤗❤️.

As a mother, I can relate to your feelings. We have to remember that our children are just a loan. Our job is to raise them and teach them but eventually, they grow wings and fly away. We want them to be independent but it is hard, especially if they move far away. Boys are the toughest because we are the first woman they love and eventually, we are replaced. It takes time to adjust.

I don’t see anything wrong with the background. I know what we see is different to how you see it and how it might be different from what you envisioned but it looks really magical and as if it’s a curvy beam of light emanating from the lantern. And it got much better when you added the dots.

It looks great 😊 but I know how you feel. It's frustrating when you have an image in your head of what you want it to look like and it doesn't turn out the same

I just finished a frustrating page that I painted gouache on the background. It was terrible 😬. I ended up using pencils over it and a blender pencil. Not my favorite page, but I’m done and I shut the book!

Shangri-La just came out the first week of March. Only reason I know is because I pre-ordered it and it was supposed to arrive Mar 5th and it didn't get here until Mar 6th
