Chastity: What Are the Limits?

Latter-day Saint teens are counseled to stay sexually pure, but what exactly are the limits? Using teachings of modern prophets, this presentation shows why that's the wrong question to ask, as well as how we can find happiness and peace through staying chaste.

Wow! That was amazing! I'm not Mormon (Catholic) but you guys have summarized so wonderfully what devout Catholics hold so true. The Mormon church is in tight and near perfect alliance with the morals Catholics profess as well! I solute you for your valiant efforts amidst a culture of lawless ever-changing Christianity trying to find loop-holes and live the Gospel as closest to the edge as possible like youve said. Its great to see a church who sees the bigger picture and knows what's important.

SOOOOO not explicitly for the youth... I'm 25 and in a serious relationship and these principles are very powerfully pertinent to my future wife and I! I've "been there, done that" in previous relationships that got too out of hand all too quickly because we didn't follow simple advice like this. Listen especially to Elder Scott in this message - you will try to justify actions that should not exist in a premarital relationship when caught up in the moment. These are powerful feelings that you're trying to bridal and you won't be able to in the moment if you've let them take root.

Hexlattice It’s better not to be alone where one lives with someone you care about for too long, especially in the evenings. It is best to go somewhere nice for a wholesome activity, and take the girl home at a decent hour. If you want to spend time together, then be at least where others are in the house somewhere. That is my recommendation. Stay out of places where you could be tempted.

Im not allowed to convert into the LDS church until im 18. I still keep these standards. Actually many families in wards of my town are aware of my predicament, and many mothers said they would support me going on a date with a mormon boy, because they know I have morals. I am not 16 yet, but I have remained pure and have not dated anyone whatsoever. I try my hardest though to keep my mormonism from my family who has extreme prejudices against the church and the members. But I plan on only goi

I wish the world saw this principle as truth. I work in healthcare and see many patients a day. I have seen the results of breaking the law of chasity. It brings me great sadness to see first hand women having children out of wedlock or deciding to abort. However, it gives me great power to see how it has blessed my life, my wife, and my family after staying chaste when I was dating. Thanks for the video I will show this to my children when they get older. Thanks!!

I wish I would have been told about chastity like this (maybe without the goofy cartoons ) instead just being told "don't do it or you will be thrown out of the church ,and go to ,well you know " ! Because this would have been more effective , especially the part about Jesus Christ and what he would like me to do ! So, for all those kids out there ,this is VERY SERIOUS ! I didn't listen and was a father at 18 ,which at the time was almost unheard of! At least in 1983 ,it happened to other people on TV shows that showed the world's view of what happens and why you should do things, which is usually incorrect . But,the reason really is its because your Father in Heaven gives.us guidelines so we can be happy and grow in a proper way ,so you will be ready and able ,both temporarily and spiritually to raise your children in a way that is pleasing unto the Lord and yourself and the sweet spirits that are sent to you and are in your care! So ,being 18 and my girlfriend ,who I did Marry ,and who was only 16 ,would be ready to raise the children they are given ! The Lord God is a loving God and only wants what is best for All his children .

I also love it that the video reminds us that we can talk with God to work things out and figure out how to best live the standards set by living prophets of the Lord. The standards given here and the ideas given to strengthen personal standards are wonderful. Also, I agree that it is sad that there are so many dislikes with this video.

But the peace you feel after is so worth it! You know you are one step closer to becoming clean again. So, go for it! Your bishop will be completely loving and non-judgmental. He will help you through it. Heavenly Father will be by your side the entire way. If you truly repent, you will be able to be married in the temple someday. Jesus Christ has given us that gift. The gift to be relieved from the pains and sorrow we bring upon ourselves through sin, and He will remember them no more. :)

I'm not a member of the church - but I do feel moved to respond. There's no silver bullet - hardship exists in everyone's life. No marriage is perfect- no two humans are perfect. No religion is perfect. We live in a world built by imperfect people, and it is completely ignorant to demand infallibility. This video, and this religion, has views on how it can promote people to have better relationships in their lives. To say an institution with this goal makes you sick is terrifying to me.

@stingernick Is this a serious question? If so... It is like if you have sex with someone not your husband (like a boyfriend) and he takes your virginity and leaves you so you feel cheated. Or he gets you pregnant and won't father the child. It scars you emotionally. Or if you are a man, that girl could leave you and you would feel cheated. There is an emotional factor.

@stingernick - to be with you because of it; if you weren't ready for it in the first place, you deal with all kinds of unnecessary sadness, guilt, resentment, heartbreak, uncertainty, distrust, and insecurity; also, there are certain mechanisms built into your brain that associate sex with permanent loveand fidelity, and if you have sex without that commitment, it will eventually break that association in your brain, so that when you are finally married, it does not mean the same to you.

@genaphidman I believe that sex is an expression of love so binding and sacred that it should only be experienced within a permanently committed relationship (marriage) where any children born will have a family. The power to create life is pretty serious stuff. It was given by God to bring new life and to express love to our spouses. Taking that power lightly by disregarding His commandments is dangerous to our spiritual well being.

@psychohippygoth I think this video counsels to not purposefully try and find/do things that cause arousal to feel pleasure. Obviously males are going to be prone to be aroused even when it is not their fault. However, I think this video is saying that one must avoid, as much as possible, doing things that arouse these feelings, such as genital touching, passionate kissing, etc.

On the commenter worried about spousal abuse, I'd like to point out, it didn't say what standards one should have for the person xe chooses to marry, it was speaking of standards on keeps for xirself. Read "The Family: a Proclamation to the World" for our views on abuse in and out of marriage to spouses, partners, children or other victims. We are more thorough than we are given credit and we teach things line upon line, precept upon precept. This video was teaching specifically about keeping the law of Chastity

I agree with you. The only way you can be relieved of you pain is to take advantage of the Savior's Atonement and repent of the sin - and that does mean confessing. But think of D&C 58:42-43 - "Behold, he who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more. By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins - behold, he will confess them and forsake them." The repentance process will be tough. Confessing will be hard. I've done it before.

I have found that one of the ways Satan tempts me most, is when I have a crush on a boy. One of the steps of repentance is realizing that Satan will keep trying to use this against you. Speak to your bishop, you do not know how many of these sins are confessed. You are not alone, and I guarantee it is something that will help you. But remember when you have fully repented, that temptation will be there. Recognize that Satan will tempt you, and decide now what to do if that time comes again!

@genaphidman Marriage is a covenant to both your spouse as well to God, physical intimacy outside of this covenant can lead to unintended consequences, broken homes and broken families are the most common tragedy of either the breaking this covenant or doing this outside of the covenant
