Chasing Strangers in San Francisco on Bicycles
Chasing strangers in SF with a side of E bike drafting. It's all love 💕. In this series of short video compilations I follow unsuspecting strangers around to find out just how “easy” it is to ride around a city. I am in no way the authority on the subject of cycling/ commuting. The statements and views expressed in this video are just like my opinion, man.

It's weird to watch how aggressively the average commuter seems to ride in car centric cities, it's almost like they're racing from light to light. At 7:40 light turns green and everyone is just mashing it like mad. Lot's of people on road bikes and with sporty gear too. Seems like the commute becomes more of a battle and the hostile environment influences peoples riding style. When you look at people ride in the Netherlands or Denmark it's the opposite, everybody is just kind of chilling along on granny bikes being smooth and relaxed. Really interesting contrast here.

That's because as of 3 weeks. The street he's riding on is closed to personal cars. Only commercial vehicles are allowed on Market street (taxis, buses, delivery). Not even ubers or lyft is allowed. But you do see dummies who claim ignorance at times. But a 2 mile stretch is basically a bicycle highway.

@@HeartPumper Groningen and Amsterdam mainly, it definitely felt more relaxed than riding anywhere in Germany where bike lanes are horrible or don't exist at all. At least you guys have some actual cycling infrastructure. I will admit that cycling in Amsterdams centre is stressful due to the amount of people, but overall still a better atmosphere than over here.
I never thought I’d see the day terry stopped at stop lights Praise the lord
This shows one of the main reasons I love bikes: random interactions with other humans. When you're locked away in a metal box you aren't just locked away physically, but socially too.
@illuforce

Ride a motorcycle as you can keep the speed of a car but still get all the cool interactions with other motorcyclists and you even have full hand signals such as a cops up ahead or slow down or hi.
The bike lanes in SF seem a lot better than NY and Toronto. Nice to see so many people out on bikes.

This is so fun. I'm gonna try this in my hometown. Although with my cardio and heavy bike... I'll have to do it the other way, rent an ebike and folow regular bikers 😂😂😂. SUBSCRIBED! Awesome riding videos!
wow that new car-free market street is looking great! although I'm a little ashamed that I live a 30 minute train ride away and still haven't had a chance to ride it yet ._.
Never seen so many bikes on a city street in the US. Not my city anyway.

I agree with you. I do not own one, but I built some. I would like to see the profits a little lower so more people could do what you do, see what you see. It offers so many benefits.
This is so fascinating to me, but also not gonna lie kinda weird and alarming from the POV of the person being "chased" and recorded. I'm sure you get this a lot. I still think it's kinda fascinating, but I just probably wouldn't produce a video like this. Scouting out what biking in the city is like since I want to take a route along the entire city.
this is so cool. I could watch this for hours. you are such a talkative fellow
This was fascinating! And more so in that I had never thought of how small SF is until I watched the video of Terry chasing strangers in Manhattan.
This is why I love bike riding random interaction is always fun
lmmfao @ the commentary. This is GOLD! 😂🤣😂
I wish all cities big and small had a cycling infrastructure like this or one day become like Amsterdam where bikes overrule cars
I like this guy. Made me laugh out loud! You should def do a series called 'e-bike drafting'.
Drafting behind ebikes is like hitting the little stars in Mario Kart 😂

Love the look of your videos. What do you do for post-processing / color grading? Am trying to level up my own videos.
Now I really have to head back to San Francisco & ride my bike, especially in the morning. This video is awesome!!
Ebikes make it easier for people to ride in SF without building up too much a sweat up the hills and inclines. But in flatter areas, a lighter bike may just be better.
I was bike commuter in San Francisco from 2006 -2012. By the end of my days there, the aggressiveness that came with tech culture made biking really unpleasant. Can only imagine the behavior with e-bikes.
« Y’know those things coast, right ? » Oof
that was too short ! loving the lighting in SF !
Great live action commentary right there, and some smooth social interaction to counterbalance the covert shit talking earlier on lol. Would watch again
Who knew that a little peddle assistance is all what needed to get people on a bike.
This is such a relaxing video to watch through for some reason. Also wants me want to get into cycling! How is cycling up hills in SF? I'm in SJ, so we don't really have high inclines here. Can I also know what bike you're using? I would like to buy a bike, and eventually do a motor kit to make it an e-bike!
Holy shit the surface of that road is horrendous!

What time was this? During the morning commute or the dinner rush?
Thanks for showing Ebikes! I have a 500w surly bigdummy and I built it from the ground up. Top speed is 35 mph with disc brakes. I ride it all the time for the last 5 years. I bought the Aventon bike to ride with no motor and learning to ride a fixed gear. I am a much older bike rider that has rode almost all types of bikes and learning fixed gear is a chalange. Great videos keep up the great work! .
What saddle do you have on your bike? Do you use cycling shorts?
Bike infrastructure in san fransico looks much better than i expected, It’s great to see riding become popular. Are bike lanes spread out across the city or is it isolated to limited areas? Thanks!
A beautiful city

You should make a news series! I like the "drafting e-bikes" idea

Geez-those roads are Rough!!
Yo terry, I’m curious about the tread you got on your tires. What’s the benefit of riding with tread in the city rather than having road tires.
@MrFreeGman
3 жыл бұрын
I recently replaced my road tires with some slightly larger and heavier treaded ones just so that I could take dirt/gravel paths if I wanted to without risking a flat or falling on my ass. I found road tires to be too restrictive in terms of exploring the parks and paths around my city. On the road it barely makes a difference, granted I'm not racing.
Oooh I love the sound if that Sram rear mech. TAK TAK TAK instead of my GRX's farting-like noises :D
